The zip-ties are very snug, and I"m afraid I will break something if I go tighter. Can anyone confirm this can be done without needing a copper shim of some kind? My exact problem is that when under load the temps skyrocket instantly. I have a push/pull setup with pretty decent cougar fans. I have the H100 pump molex plugged in, however not the 3-pin PMW (shouldn't matter right). I don't have a motherboard to connect the 3-pin to as I'm building an egpu.

Shims are needed when you keep the base plate on. The GPU sits in a well and falls short of the base plates surface. AFIK all of the pump heads straddle the well. I used a shim on mine:

Base plate? I see you have a FTW, is the base plate the head spreader? On the Power Editions the heatspreader is far enough away that the H100 doesn't touch it. Or is the base plate something else? Also, copper shims....where can I get those? Anyone use aluminum shims? I suppose I could make them pretty easy. Also, it looks like I did my zip-ties different than other H100 modders, I'm going to try re-doing that and see if it helps.

Update: Fixing zip-ties solved problem! Now seeing 31C Heaven 4.0 Max Settings at stock voltages, Woo! Now to crank up that voltage. Thanks for help guys, and especially posting that H100/670 guide!

Just finish my "The Mod" off. I have SLI 580s each cooled by their own Kuhler 620. My load temps are now amazing, especially for the top card. it was previously hitting 96 and now it is punching mid 40s. so sweet!

Hey, I'll soon do this mod with a H70, and I'm wondering if a 140mm in the bottom of a Define R4, will do the job of cooling the rest of the card.

[EDIT]

Btw, is there any certain zipties that should be used.

YES! Military grade 18LB test NYLON zip tie, not the cheap plastic 99c store. I got mine from Lowe's hardware. I heard steel ones work too. if you can find them.

Ohh ok, I wonder where I can find them in Denmark, are you sure the normal ones wont work?

Well, not the most aesthetically pleasing, but I'm finished with my egpu setup using the H100. At max volts I see 37C max on my MSI GTX 670 PE clocked at 1359Mhz. P1010591.JPG 6216k .JPG file P1010595.JPG 6313k .JPG file P1010592.JPG 6480k .JPG file

H100 fans blow out, away from card. 2 center fans blow on VRM/Mem heatsinks.
