Modded a titan the other day using h70 and two corsair fans one on the rad the other on the heatsinked vrm areas i added.
The card would throttle from 1070 >1170 then back before even with temps in the mid 60's,when i took off the heatsink i noticed all the vrm pads were not hitting the mark and 1 was even doubled over on itself...thats besides the screws that were loose.
Anyway no more major crasy up and down crap.
But it will go 1170>1160 -+ but nothing that the other card does not do.
Other card was ok np like that
results here vs scock fan on auto in heaven
I never break 43c with it even after 2-3 hours of testing

Might not help getting alot of clock but it will keep it out of the 80c area and that cant be bad.

now overclocked with max stock fan speed(85%) stock card 70ish h70 not much change still max 41c

I was thinking about doing the mod on my secondary card, a reference GTX 550 Ti.

I found this photo of the PCB:

Are these (yellow/red circles) marked locations the only ones that "need" heatsinks?

Thanks redface.gif

You mentioned uninstalling the driver; did you use a driver cleaner? That would be best. Sux man. I hope you get it worked out.

Good news er'rybody! I didn't end up using the check boxes, instead taking the body saw and pencil grinder to my stock shroud. Got the shroud back over the card, and all is well!! Even better news, while the card was down and out, I decided to update my rig (in my sig below) and ended up getting a 680 tongue.gif The 580 isn't collecting dust though, moved it into my roomates rig, replacing his two aging 260s. Thanks for all the help! thumb.gif

Great to know it's working. Thank-you for replying.
EVGA has a great warranty, which I would have voided by grinding or scratching the shroud, plates and etc..
The taped on check book box is a flimsy solution. Someday maybe I'll find the right size plastic container in the dollar store.

I cut up the shrouds.. Got to drinkin and said screw it.

The bottom one is the first one I cut, as you can see it is not very circular.. On the second shroud I went much slower and it shows

I bought a H100 with broken fan control for $50 and mounted on my twinfrozr GTX 570
I had to place the water block at a 45 degree angle and strap it on with an aluminum plate. It's pretty ghetto but gets the job done.
Pink lights FTW!

hey guys. recently my idle temps have been slowly creeping up. i cant tell if it is b/c either the thermal paste wasnt applied completely right, its slipping off, or if its just b/c the ambient temperature of the room is greater now than it was a few months ago.

when i boot up my cards start at 25-27C, but within an hour its up to 32-35C. load temps are the same as when i installed the first time tho, which is good i think.

im going to tighten up the brackets a smidge, since i have a feeling they may have loosed a bit over time since theyre upside down. i really dont want to fully remount the cooling units tho, it was a pain to install everything lol.

should i be worried about anything?

I have a similar problem. At first I was getting 27 to 32.... now 3 months later its always around 37 or more.
