Was looking to get one of these but wanted a H80i one with a Fan Bracket.

Anyone thought about sticking a huge fan like a 200mm BitFenix Spectre Pro like this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/dp/B0067LYYI0?tag=invihand-21

That should sort those VRM's out yeah wink.gif

If H80i bracket which could fit one of those was available, I would get 2 for my GTX 660 SLI's smile.gif

Overkill? Maybe but would certainly shift the air around my case and towards the H100i I have located in the top.
i dont think you would typically have room in your case to mount 200mm fans like that. also, the pcb is a lot smaller than the area covered by a 200mm fan, so you wouldnt be getting great airflow.

plus, you dont want to use those bitfenix fans in that kind of horizontal configuration. the weight of the fan blades is so much that it creates friction inside the motor, and causes it to lose RPMs significantly. i bought 2 of the 200mm bit fenix fans, and tried to use one as a top exhaust on a 600t case. it worked perfectly fine as an intake, b/c the fan blades were resting on the motor mount/fan struts. but as an exhaust, the weight of the fan blades pulled the motor shaft down slightly, creating unnecessary friction and causing it to lose RPMs after about 10min.

you could try to mount on on the side of your case in a vertical configuration, blowing cool air from outside the case onto your GPUs

So I've been combing through these posts for a little while now, wanted to get you all's opinions on this:

I've been wanting to add some form of liquid cooling to the GPUs in my dedicated folding cluster. Originally I had considered one large loop that linked all cards to a bank of radiators, but that would turn out to be a pain in the a$$ to upgrade when I add more nodes (which I will. Just got a donation of 6 GTX 480s!)
Right now there are roughly 5 GPUs total in the cluster. Ideally I'd like to not be spending a ton of cash on it since most of my cash went into building the cluster in the first place tongue.gif

The cards are:

3x GTX 650 Ti BOOST
2x GTX 480 Reference

Any recommendations on coolers for these if I will have them running 24/7 folding? (And some good heatsinks for the leftover parts as well!)

Cheers!

Going to join in once I get the spare cash, few questions I would like to ask.

If using an H60, is a copper shim required if I get the bracket off Dwood's website?

Would the VRM circuitry on my reference 670 require any additional cooling aside from the stock heatsink and general case cooling?

Generally, how flat of a surface is on the H60, lapping recommended or can I get by (kind of lazy and don't know where all my lapping materials went, its been quite some time since my e4300)?

Never posted these, The gtx 480 has a giant hole where the heatsink was unlike the new cards, so out comes the gorilla tape and sharpie

now the air is directed back of the pcb rather than all over the place
I also stuck a fan on top of the backplate pulling air away from it.

It works for now until I come up with something fancier. I'm throwing cougar pwn's on in a day or two so I'll post more pics and a nice amount of temps

that gorilla black duct tape is the best tape i have ever used.. try and get it off a dirty garage floor once it sticks.. haha. i did the same thing to cover a hole on my coolermaster case when i put the rad on the outside.. the hole was hidden by the plastic top i had removed but i wanted to block the air so i put two pieces glue side to glue side.. man that stuff would never come apart. :>
sunset1

btw thanks guys for the ideas on using the shim.. because of time i went with a swiftech block for now but id like to know how to do it.. i really like the 4 drops of glue tim on the corners idea..

but when i experiment it will be with a replaceable card.. those cards are now out of stock and may be discontinued. I cant afford to mess this one up.
thanks again.

That is going to be a mammoth task!! I don't know much about custom loops.... I would go 2 x Asetek 760GC's and maybe a H60 or H80??. The Asetek covers two GPU's so two of them and a single H60/80 for a single card. This is me just being lazy, it might not be the most practical option but it would be the easiest if you can find the space for the radiators smile.gif

Space is definitely not an issue smile.gif I have space on the sidewall of the rack I could use to mount radiators, the shelves above/below nodes, the empty space above all nodes I use for cooling fans (that would require the custom loop methinks.....and an a$$ ton of tubing). I have plenty of space smile.gif

The GTX 480s are really my primary concern as they are kicking out some mean heat numbers. I'd like for this cluster to last, hence the decision for liquid cooling!

I'll take a look at the Asetek cooler, as that may be perfect for the dual-GPU nodes (which hopefully all of them will be soon)

Cheers!
