[Official] NVIDIA GPU Mod Club - AKA "The Mod" - Page 7

Something just occurred to me. If these Antec 620 coolers can keep a 580 or 480 producing upwards of 225W of heat less than 60C why can't they keep a CPU producing 150W of heat (an OC'd 1336 or 2011) under 60C? Could the IHS on Intel CPUs really be that terrible? I suppose it could also be due to to the increased die size of the GPU compared to the CPUs which would be a bigger surface area to transfer heat in which should help, but still that's a startling discrepancy when you think about it.

Has anyone attempted this on a ati card do you know? I can't find anything.
Would be interesting to try on my diamond 6950 2gb

Hey thanks Reaver, I read through that post, was pretty informative but still I have a couple questions that are kinda confusing me here.

So If I am using 1/4 ID tubing the size of the bards is 1/4 OD ( as in outer diameter) or is it 3/8"? And How would I know if the barbs would fit the swiftech microres or not?
Finally do you have any of these barbs by chance? I wasn't able to find the proper barbs on frozen CPU, Where I live the water cooling scene is pretty much limited, look here http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentlist.asp?parttypeid=524&t=27

Good point, I was also thinking the same thing. I am sure its a bit more technical than we think, a simple IHS cant be that bad, like the CPU's running at 3~4Ghz compared to the GPU under 1Ghz. Maybe that has something to do with it, maybe it doesn't. Anyway, I would also like to know. + reps thumb.gif

The speed of the chip in question doesn't make a difference, it's the heat output that matters and those numbers are ~225W for a stock 580 compared to ~150W for an overclocked 1366 CPU.

And it's good to see AMD card owners getting into this now.
They have the advantage of not having to cut off an IHS from their gpu die!

Well after probably 3-5 hours of good solid benchmarking and testing the GPU...seems like my temps have settled down.

Running now 1.087V @ 1.00GHz on the GTX560.
Here's my temps:
400

Notice how low the idle temp is! I added another fan to the exhaust portion of my radiator. SO It's now PUSH - PULL - PULL

I don't think it can get much better than this. VRM temps are around 60C. VRAM is anywhere from 45C to 62C. I'd love for ASUS to work with me in the tech support and actually get bios that I can update so I can up to 1.1V and maybe more like 1050MHz!!!!
