SpeedFan only reports the sensors available, so YMMV depending on your card

Ohhh, OK, good to know. I think my motherboard has a thermistor slot, so I can wire it up that way. Thank you for the tip.

Yeah... I keep forgetting that most cards don't have VRM sensors, so.... either way you can always hook up a sensor if you are worried about it, but personally I changed that setup for a manual control one later on. I tend to just set the fans to a speed wehre they are about the same sound level as the rest of the rig and just leave it there and it's been working quite well for me since I started usig it. Just remeber that if you choose to amp up the voltage on your card the VRMs will get way hotter than you are used to.

OK, right, right. That makes sense. Yeah, I couldn't find it on my GTX 770 so I Google'd around.

You know, manual would be a heck of a lot simpler. But, I'm just itching to try out this thermistor, haha....more for ****s and giggles. The 140mm fan--at pretty much any RPM--basically on the PCB will be a lot better than whatever stock VRM/VRAM cooling the GPU had, haha.

most aftermarket fan controllers have temp probs included which can be used to control the fan speeds. Its added costs but the controller can offer far easier and reliable methods of fan control for both the fan on the card for vrm cooling and again for the fans on the rad. My 580 Matrix had software for fan speed based on die temps as well as the MATRIX logo which changed color depending on gpu load or die temps. IT was a great feature and I miss that on my titan. I managed to keep the shroud on my titan which allowed me to control the gpu fan speed no different to how it could be controlled stock. My next gpu purchase I will again pick the card which will allow me to keep the stock shroud. I find that keeping it really helps to minimize complications later for exactly what is being discussed with pcb cooling on these modded cards. That being said im thinking by the time i upgrade the gpus tdp will be so low passive cooling will be all that is needed thumb.gif

Some very nice looking gpu mods are being posted here, its nice to see this thread alive and kicking butt still.

Live long and mod on

Hey guys need some help, so I cannot find a video or pics of anyone who has a Kraken G10 on one of those mini PCB GTX 970's (or any MINI Nvidia GPU for that matter). So has anyone in here done that? I only ask because I have the Kraken G10 laying around, I have the cooler laying around, and I have an EVGA GTX 1060 on the way for my son's new build and I'd like to throw the kraken on there. It's a pretty tiny looking card and while I think the Kraken should still work no problem I just want to make sure. I know people threw Kraken G10's on their 1070's and 1080's no problem so it should fit the 1060 too it's just that I have to imagine the 1060 since it's so short, will have the chokes, caps and mosfets on the left side of the core which means the Kraken's fan won't even be over top of them.... :*(

Guess I may need to suck it up and listen to that tiny fan whine until EK (hopefully) releases a water block for it.... That'll be a waste of a Kraken G10 and AIO though.

It will fit without an issue, but I doubt there will be any VRM cooling from it (since I'm guessing the VRMs are placed on the other side of the core). That said, it's quite easy to modify it if you are up for that.

Ok so that's what I was thinking, it should likely fit because it only uses the 4 holes surrounding the core to mount to it. Now what's funny is that this Kraken G10 and AIO was cooling my old G1 GTX 970, which is a custom PCB and has the VRMs and everything on the left side of the core lol. It ended up keeping them cool enough with the little bit of air they were getting from the fan on the other side somehow, but there was PCB there for the Kraken's fan to deflect air off of. I don't think the 1060 will work the same I may need to like you say, mod it somehow. I don't think the Kraken G10 can be mounted backwards with the fan on the other side though, not that I would want to anyway it would probably not look so great even if it worked.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if Corsair will make those HG10's for the 1000 series cards...

It probably wouldn't look half bad, but you would have to cut the length of the kraken to fit between the case and core. Then I imagine you would probably have to fit a couple of 40mm fans instead of the 92mm fan, so it's not impossible, it just depends on how much work you are willing to put in to it.
