am i really only 460 owner thats done this...CMON YOU PPLS GET MODDING!!
I added a 140mm fan i had spare to cool the VRM's, a little big and lower RPM that id like but it will do until my bracket gets here.

I have been doing some benching and im quite amazed. My card used to lock up anything past 950mhz on the core....i can now go upto 980mhz stable at 1.150v and max temp is 60c. I just tried for the golden 1000mhz all was going well but it locked up near the end of the bench booooo!

980mhz overclock is still amazing though, thats 30mhz extra just by doing this mod. I'll probably stick at 950mhz for now as i dont want to stress it too much smile.gif

When i overclock my card i can hear some faint coil whine but i expect that was there with the old cooler you just couldnt hear it because of the fans! Now you hear every little noise in your case because your graphics card is so silent! Stock it doesnt whine and its so faint it doesnt really bother me as any sound drowns it out. Waiting for it to ramp up and it doesnt is really weird - In a good way!! thumb.gif

Kind of offtopic ~ but are there any issues with passing an H60/H80 through TSA security when traveling?

Probably not going to let you carry it on, but checked bag should be ok.

if it has liquid than NOT A CHANCE wink.gif
post #876 of 8626
Yea, your going go have to mail it. Once they figure out its a closed loop liquid cooling unit, they'll rip that thing right open.

UPS is your best bet.

Darylree,

Did you lapp the 620 heatplate? I lapped mine and I'm getting 54C max @ 1.138v on my 580.... might want to look into lapping the cooler.
1.150v scares me. My 600w PSU under that load with 1.150v on the GPU causes the LED cathode to flicker...lol thumb.gif
post #877 of 8626
lol mine seems to be fine at those clocks mate, i have a 750w psu. I normally run at 1.138v for my 950mhz overclock but 1.150v is still within the AB limit and i know many people who run them at those clocks. I dont perminantly overclock my card, i always run stock day to day and just overclock when gaming smile.gif

No i didnt lap the 620. I thought about it but i wasn't sure how to do it or what materials i needed. I didnt want to break it and cause perminnant damage. If you could advise what i need to do i could lap it when i get my bracket and refit the pump thumb.gif Im up for giving that a go to get even better temps! From what i understand you just sandpaper the surface down a little to smooth off the block to a shiny finish but thats a little scetchy. I saw the guide in this thread but again itg doesnt go into much detail. Id like to know exactly what im doing before i give it a go. My original idea was to cut the mounting points off the bracket and use that with ties but those little brackets are Tough! I couldnt cut it no matter how much i tried!

Love the mod so far, just wish i had a better place for my radiator. I'd need to get a new CPU cooler to fit it to the case perminantly. At the moment the 620 radiator and fan sit at an angle in my drive bays.

Last night it was idling at 23c -25c pretty impressive really.

If you leave it in it's original packaging and declare it before entering you can have it placed on the plane and pick it up on entry - it is a huge hassel. If you check it in with your large luggage not an issue.

Awesome, huh? ;-) ...

BTW ... in that MSI tool, I just set the volts to the highest I could. Is that bad? I didn't really want to mess with testing for lowest volts and what not and just set it at max over voltage with the slider. I generally run around 950mhz on the core as well (though I too have tested stable at 980mhz) ...

But I don't really know anything about volts and what the limitations of the card are ... just figured MSI wouldn't allow the slider to go to the point of card burn up.
