[Official] AMD/ATI GPU Mod Club - AKA "The Red Mod" - Page 11

Not sure if the brackets are ready yet and up for sale, not long im sure though. The zipstrap method will work for any gpu. It may not look like the rest of the cards but i cant see it not working. When i did my 580gtx the holes were a fair distance for the pump (h70) and the ties came off the pump at a good angle. I do have some play with my pump on the card, very little but there is some wiggle room there. My temps are not affected by this, i still see startup temps in the teens. My fans on the rad at 1000 rpm so not allow the card to exceed mid 50c in bf3. Only do what you are comfortable with, dont mod if you beleave you will have an issue, post some pics and lets have a look. Some times more eyes on a task will help.

im getting it back next week sometime so will put pics up then>
i was worried bout the 620 not fitting but i found this
http://imgur.com/a/W9OU5
so im presuming it will now.

i seen a mod where someone used a x bracket and screws to hold it in place im assuming that will be stronger than zip ties??
the card is a rev 1 reference so it has a backplate and a x bracket on the back for support so that should help

with ati cards not having a IHS you will benifit more from a bracket as you will get even pressure on the chip. With nvidia cards alot of the uneven pressure will be negated by the IHS. The zippys do a great job but as the mod evolves so will mounting methods. For those who dont mind, zipties are by far the cheapest method, work for any card and are readily available. I dont mind the zippys myself, cheap and easy. If i ever get my hands on a mount though i would perfer a mount vs zippys.

Or you could just simply look a couple posts before yours, or elsewhere in this thread, where you can see closeups of the 620 on 6xxx series cards. Even from my closeup pic you can see the zipties are at a slight angle, there's more than enough room.

I'm gonna be sent one of this Antec 620. Should I use it with my 6970, have any of you tried it? Will temps be lower? (provably push-pull fan config)

BTW, unrelated, why isn't my rig sig updating even if I changed stuff?

Thx biggrin.gif

ya, thats pretty cool, how did you do that, got any pics
post #110 of 3006
I don't have pic on how I've done that, I usually just mod things and shoot on it after its done but I can share how I do it.

First I bought that Xigmatech from a local IT store, I choose this model coz its cheap and the pipes circumference are bigger and the sink is big. Its a Xigmatech HDT S-1283 that I believe its way too old model. (CPU blocks here cost times 3 or 4 the price of this sink that I bought)

Then I reduce / remove some fins, I think I removed 6 pcs of it.

Then I slowly saw the pipes at very end tip.

Then after removing those tip I blow the pipes with compress air to remove the oily substance inside that serve somewhat like a thermal solution to spread heat all over the sink.

Leak test fist those pipes to see if there's any hole.

I cut a short piece of copper tube and bended it to my desired position.

clean the tube with sand paper to removes impurities so when I solder this baby, the lead will make a good bond.

I got those fitting ends/barbs on an acetylene T connector, clean it and solder it to the copper tube i cut.

Then when the additional tube with fitting ends are fix in place, time to solder it on the Sink's copper tube.

after its solder, just inserted the pvc flexible tube at the remain pipes to complete the circulation, and after that do some leak test

then its time to put it on the system.

Note just make sure to have a tight flexible tube so wont have any leaks even if you don't add any clips on it.

Temps:

on my old MSI 880 board my temp range is at 30 degree C at idle and around 45-50 at load at 3.6Ghz
at this current MSI 890 board the temps on idle is at 45-50 while it kicks to 60+ on load at 3.6Ghz

with my current set up, when I try to stress test this with Prime95 the temps goes to 65-70 after hours of test just having the fan of the xigmatech is running and all radiators fans are off.

maybe if I replace my tubing with lager diameter and add one more radiator , temps might still go down.
