Is there a difference between the normal OEM and the OEM boost edition, and would i need some vram heatsinks ?

I think the OEM versions have a plate covering the whole PCB inside the cooler. The ideal solution is to just remove the heatsink and shorud and keep the plate along with the fan.

i guess one has the gpu clock boost fonction the other has not.

a bit like a normal 7970 and a Ghz 7970 but you only get the gpu boost and not the oc on base clock

I have a MSI 7870 Hawk CF setup... my master card is sitting at 60C when my slave is at 81C
is this something I should RMA, or is it normal for this big of jump between two cards of same make/model? I'm thinking that the heatsink isn't seated as well as it could be on the slave, I want to do the red mod- but don't have space for two, might not be able to even cram one 620 in my little mid tower...

BTW- I have run the cards separately in the fist pcie slot and the second card still runs same temps (so I doubt it is placement or airflow...)

basically asking is it worth just doing one red mod on the slave card... would post other places for just RMA question...

I usually replace the TIM on new cards if it doesn't have a "Warranty is void if broken" sticker on it.

Want to thank isajlovic for inspiring me to mod my 7970 Lightning.

The Flesh Factory

The Cooler Master Seidon series is perfect, I used the XL. The holes line up just right. Don't need a bracket.

Looped Heaven @ 1.29V & 1.2Ghz, max temp of 59C, VRM temps @ 56C.

While not a lot cooler than with the standard HSF, approx 10C it is WORLDS quieter which was what I was primarily after biggrin.gif

Now.... the question.... put the Seidon XL on my CPU and move the H100 to the Lightning? headscratch.gif

ran a more conservative 1.2V & 1.15Ghz clock and hitting upper 40's only.
do you need the extra cooling? high 40s for OC'd card sounds damn good to me but I'm more of a laid back- "I'll OC it when I need it" kind of guy...
main problem will be placement, will the tubes reach? how much modification will you need and how much will you gain? I personally think that your setup looks sweet the way it is... couple of things you can look into are those side fans (blowing in or out?) and possibly a small HS fan to blow across the GC if you feel like you should be getting lower temps.

I was just kidding about the swap, very happy with my temps.Actually they've gone down 3 to 5 degrees! in my excitement I forgot to change the Asus fan control settings, they were running on the lowest speed setting with no ramp up.
Posted this in the xXCrossXFire ClubXx section, but figured it deserved a cross post here.

Added some H60 DIY water cooling to my Sapphire 7970's until I can sort out the issues with my H220. I fixed the tubing from the top card pushing the bottom card down after I snapped this picture. My computer is now almost completely silent when gaming!

Here are the temps with 2 Gentle Typhoon AP-15's in push/pull for the bottom card, and one in push for the top card. The fans are running at 40% or so on a fan controller at all times and the H60 pumps are running at 80% to avoid the H60 pump grind.

Top Card
Stock Idle: 42C
Mod Idle: 31C
Stock Load: 77C
Mod Load: 51C

Bottom Card
Stock Idle: 38C
Mod Idle: 29C
Stock Load: 74C
Mod Load: 51C

The Sapphire cards already had heatsinks on the VRMs, and the VRM temps seem to be about 3-6C cooler than with the stock heatsink / fan. This is with a Fractal 140mm fan blowing on them from my side panel at 40%.
