[Official] AMD/ATI GPU Mod Club - AKA "The Red Mod" - Page 107

Just ordered:
2 x Zalman LQ-320
2 x D-wood Fan Brack (Black)

I'll probably use the zip-tie method while I wait for the brackets to arrive because I'm just impatient like that... and I still need to find four decent fans to use for push/pull. I'd love to use the Gentle Typhoons, but they're expensive as hell! Are there any decent alternatives to the GT's for half the cost?

Good times ahead! biggrin.gif

Thanks, I will try to reseat them again!

Got my Antec 620. Just waiting on my VRM cooling and shim+bracket from Dwood.

Thanks for all the information in this thread!

Project was a total disaster. Got shims and bracket in place. Card would not boot if linked togerther in crossfire. Tried using my lightning card only. PC booted up and ran fine until I tried toplay a game. As soon as the card had to render intensive graphics, bang, it shut off. It was only at 40 degrees celsius.

When I pulled the coolers off i somehow knocked off one of the tiny resistors from my reference card. It still works, but the fan was constantly runing at an alarming speed.

Putting the Red Mod on the back shelf, at least for awhile.

Quick question: Using the Dwood Fan Bracket, will a 25mm wide fan fit in between my two crossfired video cards on an ASrock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard, or do I need to find a slimmer fan?

I'm using a dwood bracket with a 25mm wide fan and it seems a fit by a mm or 2, give or take. The lip on my bracket seems questionable as to whether or not it could fit with another below it. I am using an Extreme4.

That's great info, and great photos, thank you! While I'm sure it's possible to squeeze a 25mm fan in between the two cards, I don't think I want to risk it being too crowded -- which may cause possible noise/heat issues -- so, I'm now looking at only "slim" fans with 12-20mm width.

As there doesn't seem to be many 92mm slim fans available anywhere, I may just ask Dwood to change my bracket to 120mm mounts -- the selection is much better for decent 120mm slims.

I also believe the vrm doesn't need much cooling. I have mine at around 900-1200rpm I have never been able to hit a temperature limit for them without hitting my card's clocking limit first. I wouldn't worry too much about them, especially with a direct fan on them. In addition I would think your front intakes would provide enough flow to keep the air going to your vrm's cool enough. I have a rad in the front of my Define R4 and another intake at the bottom, all 140's. I keep them running as low as possible, and none of my components ever clear 75c unless I set my cpu voltage at around 1.3-1.4v, even then everything else stays plenty cool.

Using the Arc Midi R2 case, I'll be running three separate closed loops in the system -- A H220 on the CPU and a Zalman LQ320 for each GPU. I'm also slapping heatsinks all over both cards. The H220 rad (2x120) will be in the top as a push/pull exhaust, with one additional exhaust 120mm fan in the rear, and then both Zalman rads will be used as intake push/pull in the lower front. If necessary, I'll add an additional intake on the very bottom pointing at the floor... not sure yet. All of the radiator push/pull fans will be Scythe Gentle Typhoons, and I'll probably use Slim Gelid 120's on each GPU. smile.gif

Wish me luck! lol

Well... Good luck!

Also, how do you like the Arc Midi? I have been considering buying that case.
