For mosfets, I used the Swiftech MC21's:

For heatsinks, I used the low-profile (9mm high) Enzotech BCC9's:

For the 4pin fan adapters, I used the GELID Solutions Model CA-PWM-02:

Alright guys, here are the final results for my max temps:

BEFORE (STOCK):
2 x Powercolor 7870XT Myst @ 1100/1500 after a Unigine Valley run, ambient temp is 26C:
GPU1: 101C Core, 114C VRM
GPU2: 87C Core, 96C VRM
CPU (Swiftech H220): 63C

AFTER RED MODDING JUST THE PRIMARY GPU1:
2 x Powercolor 7870XT Myst @ 1100/1500 after a Unigine Valley run, ambient temp is 23C:
GPU1: 43C Core, 89C VRM
GPU2: 81C Core, 87C VRM
CPU (Swiftech H220): 57C

AFTER RED MODDING BOTH GPU'S:
2 x Powercolor 7870XT Myst @ 1100/1500 after a Unigine Valley run, ambient temp is 21C:
GPU1: 42C Core, 86C VRM
GPU2: 42C Core, 89C VRM
CPU (Swiftech H220): 55C

I think it's safe to say that these temps rock, and the near-silence is BEAUTIFUL!

Nice, next stop full custom biggrin.gif?

What voltage are your cards running at? Those VRM temps still don't look that great relative to how far core drops. For reference, my 7950 is sitting at 65c core and 72c vrm at 100% load bitcoin mining, 18c outside with window open don't know exact ambient. Overclocked to 1100mhz core at 1.169v, fan speed is at 50% which is bearable, but definitely not ideal.

Yeah, I definitely still need to figure out something for the VRMs. My voltage for my 24/7 OC of 1150/1550 is still stock voltage (1.187) with +15 power limit. I think I might need to replace the VRM heatsinks altogether, but I'm not sure.

My freind had me use a h60 bracket on his gpu 5970 and now the hdmi port wont work
Thought card was being finiky and or board being funny and got cheap gpu and it worked
The 5970 showed up in bios and device manager.
A member on the crosshair v fourum said try the dvi ports and who ho its working but I have 2 blocks of lines down the screen and soon windows loads it purple
I untightened screws a lil thinking I had them tp tight like my card and still the same

Any advice guys?

Check the gpu temp and make sure the bolts are not shorting out of card.

I did have to file down the edges of the bits that stick out as a ic was in the way
I have washers on the bolt side will try some on the underneath.
Would a short do this
Infact the comp did trip the breaker twice

Using the other card with the 5970 in other slot the temps show 30 ish
on everything

Sorry its a 5870 not a 5970 just sick looking at thing

Alright, I wasn't quite happy with my VRM temps after doing the Red Mod to my cards, so I sat and stared at the case for a while... that's when my awesome Arc Midi R2 case came to the rescue!

There is a horizontal slot above all the other PCI slots, so I took a slot bracket and super-glued a Silent R2-series 140mm fan to it that is aimed directly down on the VRM heatsinks on each card.

The result:

AFTER RED MODDING BOTH GPU'S:
2 x Powercolor 7870XT Myst @ 1100/1500 after a Unigine Valley run, ambient temp is 21C:
GPU1: 42C Core, 86C VRM
GPU2: 42C Core, 89C VRM
CPU (Swiftech H220): 55C

AFTER RED MODDING BOTH GPU'S AND ADDING A 140MM FAN:
2 x Powercolor 7870XT Myst @ 1100/1500 after a Unigine Valley run, ambient temp is 22C:
GPU1: 43C Core, 75C VRM
GPU2: 43C Core, 77C VRM
CPU (Swiftech H220): 57C

So, while I'm still not 100% satisfied with the VRM temps, they're definitely better than they were before!

That's more like it! It's amazing what even just a small amount of air flow can do for a heatsink smile.gif.
