anyway i got a magnet from a old moble from the mobile shop next to my work and tried that and its still making a racket. the day i installed it to my 6950 i threw away the returns form like a plonker so should i buy another from the same place (currys/pc world) n return this one in the new box.
(i know its frowned upon but its the same place)

I would.

Yeah if it's well within the return period, no harm in doing so.

Hey guys was recently thinking about some new cooler positions for my case in this thread

http://www.overclock.net/t/1241409/best-place-for-corsair-h100

Was directed here from another thread i started on replacing the fan on my gpu,
now, the cooling on my card is pretty good as it is, however pushing the fan speed past 60% starts to make it noisy

here are my specs

CASE: Thermaltake Mk-1 Chaser
MOBO: Asus Sabertooth 990FX
CPU: AMD FX8120 Black Edition
GPU: MSI R6850 OC Cyclone Edition
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 720w
RAM: 3 x 4GB Sticks Kingston 1600 HyperX

1. Not sure if i can do this mod on my gpu
2. Which cooler is easiest and best installation
3. Was thinking putting an extra 200mm fan in top of case, with the h100 with another 2 fans on either side of the rad (push-push-pull config)
4. having H80/920/other cooler where exhaust fan is now at back of case, 2 fans on rad
5. hooking up all the fans to a controller instead of block headers
6. Would i need to bother cooling the ram on my gpu

Thanks in advance guys thumb.gif

I haven't done a kuhler, but from experience the H60/H80/H100 require a lot of work, fabrication, and trial and error to get it to sit correctly, but then again I'm also known to do things the hard way. As for cooling on GPU people will tell you you don't need it, The way I see it, If you bought the card and it had cooling anywhere (VRAM/VRM/Mosfets/GPU) stock, then it doesn't hurt to continue the trend. The manufactures put cooling there for a reason, they designed it so I'm not one to question it. That's just me as I like the extra security because I hate RMA processes..

On a side note. I took some temp readings and the Vram is hitting temps of around 135F during a gaming session of WIC fully maxed to the MAX. If your playing something like metro I would expect those temps to go higher as im getting around 140-210 FPS (Min & Max on Ellis island Mission).

how did you check the vrm temps?

Agreed, if there was cooling to component than try to recreate it as best you can. Ive run my cards without it but i also didnt care about that perticular card, never think of running my Matrix without cooling, love the card too much.

One of these.

On another side note I think I just figured out Hseries Mount V3 which will probably be the final one if I can get this design down.

If i'm gonna mod my GPU 7970 with Antec 620, is it important to get VRAM heatsinks ? on top of the stock fan

I've done the Kuhler 620 on my 6850 with the zip tie method and it seems to me that it's the most versatile because of it being round.

I also cooled the RAM with some extra sinks I had. I was able to overclock the ram more. If you do or if you don't... just be sure to have some air flow over them. My case has a fan that blows right over the GPU but I know a lot of cases don't.

You can also pm Dwood for a bracket he's been making. I got one but my installation has been delayed because I've been waiting on fans. If they don't come today, definitely just going to try it this weekend.

Got a h100 or noctua d14 inc this week with for new cpu and mb so will have the antec kuhler 620 lying around now doing nothing. I was thinking of putting it on my 6970 but I am not doing it for temps since my card idles at 34-and goes about 50-60 at full load. I am more concerned about reducing noise as the noise of my sapphire reference 6970 fan sounds like a jet >_>. Would this reduce the noise by alot?.

how much better is a corsair h70 over the 620
