This is how you want your card. No aftermarket fans, just plug the original fan back into the gpu pcb fanheader and your done. I kept both fans and had the waterlines come out the side of the card.

Now have my bracket, just sprayed her up and waiting for a 92mm fan to fit - IMG_20120623_151027.jpg

Why all those complicated mods? A universal waterblocks cost under 60$ ans will easily do the trick. smile.gif

Asus 7970 DCII with EK universal blocks. I can do 1175/1800 on stock voltage, with temps idle under 24-25 celsius and full load max 38-39 celsius. biggrin.gif

275

And my ''old'' MSI 6970 Lightnings with hell cheapo VRMs heatsinks:

Thats pretty cool, ive seen peeps using those universal blocks and they work well. The Mod and universal blocks still dont address the vrm/pcb/vram heat issues. The complication really comes from modders working with how the vender decided to cool the pcb components. To cool either method you need to keep the stock shroud or find another way to cool the card and it can get to be a chore quickly and the costs can go up. Dwood has a good solution for this with his bracket. One version for if you can keep the shroud and fans intact and a second version which hosts a mount for a aftermarket 120mm fan. Both are very cheap.

The Mod complete can be up and running for almost free. What i mean by this is that if you were upgrading the liquid cooler (as i was) and have the old LC sitting there idle anyways its just the cost of the zippys. My mod cost me $1.99 (cost of the zipstraps). If you didnt have the LC sitting around to begin with then a 620 or H60 ive seen as low as $29 on sale. If you wan The Mod instantly the cost of the cooler can go up if you dont get a sale price but still its reg price is $49 + $1.99 for zippys= $50.99 and youve watercooled you gpu for $9.99 les than what you paid for the universal pump alone. You still have maintance and addional costs that go with replacing fluid, cleaning time, damage by a bad mixture or an algae problem which may never go away. You still have all the costs for the pump, tubes, clamps, res, liquid, miss. An overlooked advantage of the mod, one that is not mentioned enough imo is that its maintance free. Once you buy the cooler you never have to think about it again AND its close to what true watercooling offers for temps.

Nothings going to replace watercooling for looks and bling. There is nothing like a pimped out watercooled rig, i honestly dont know how they come up with so many amazing wc pc.

Look at my second picture. I did solve the ''vrm/pcb/vram heat issues'' by using hell cheapo heatsinks on the VRMs and the RAM chips.

With a small fan blowing air on those, they are nice and cool. smile.gif

LOL? Everything is nice and cool with the heatsink on the VRMs. I have a 120mm fan at very low RPMs blowing on it. No problems with temps on the RAM chips and VRMs. smile.gif

My vrms will go almost side to side with the gpu core temps....

You still are forgetting the rest of the setup..

60 only for the gpu block...

What about how much cost the;

Radiator(s), pump(s), reservoirs, tubes, fittings, etc.... and maintenance...??

I paid $58 for the antec 620... Probably will do the job on the gpu as good as your custom waterblock will ever do with the even lower temps...

Overkill you can call it... Theres 3 types of cooling, NOT ENOUGH/GOOD ENOUGH and there is a OVERKILL..

Mine do 1175/1900 perfectly stable and stock voltage in a (35c ambient day..)

Because its not just the block you need.. you would need pump, rad, hoses, fluid and maintenance!

But the blocks do look nicer to the eye.. my 2 penies
