did you use the back bracket? I thought i saw it on the work table. Were the screw holes too small?
Also is that artic 5 tim? Your temps might start to drop after running it and cycling down after a few days.

I didn't re-use the stock back bracket, the screw holes were just perfect for what I had. Dwood had included 4 screws and 4 nuts which fit perfectly. Yup that is Artic 5 TIM. Had to use a copper shim since it's a 7970. So it's GPU-> TIM->Shim->TIM->Kuhler. I'll repost temps in a week, should be a little bit lower. Overall I'm very happy. I mostly did this because of the annoying stock fan past 40%, it's virtually silent now.

Will this mod work with the MSI 7870 hawk, since it has the backplate, and the gpu reactor ? or does the reactor have to come off

It should work fine with the GPU Reactor on. I believe the heatsink is held with four screws on the back so it shouldn't be too terribly hard to fasten.
now im curious gpu reactor? anyone have a photo?
@simpletech thats a lot of blue flames dude.. represents a lot of work.. thumb.gif

btw i havent had time to put my new fm2 together but i have a new 6670 im modding for the setup
with one of those dual pump kits from ebay asetek.
it should be interesting on how this kit cools the gpu and cpu with the mod. :>

Sounds like a killer setup. thumb.gif

one can only hope. im paring the rad with either two or 4 corsair sp120 quiet eidtion fans.
Since i recently got a thermaltake water 2.0 extreme... i may add a gpu block from the other kit to use the 240mm rad.. and alow me to use more fans. :> If i do, I wont remvoe the fluid in the kit, ill cut the hose and cap it off till i get what i want from the other kit and cap it off. if anything ill add a tad of distilled water to the current solution. It has worked well so far in my dual 6950 loop where i added a gpu block. Again my goal is to reduce noise, increase cooliing and not the lowest possible temps.
If i add the 240 its only because i got the thermatake kit for 79.99 after rebates and promos last week. And i have two asetek kits to play with. If i didnt have this stuff i would just go with the asetek kit. but then again this is OCN. :>

edit after writing this i realize i have a third option.. More more more...
I dont wnat to get the loop too complicated in case there are issues.
Origonally i considered attempting two 120x 49mm rads on top.It depends on how it fits and
how far i feel comfortable in going with this mod.

I'm going to throw this out here because I have read the entire thread and have not found the answer to my question. I'm thinking of doing the mod on my 7970 because I like silence. The thing is my noise threshold is a lot lower than anybody else I know (I'm a long time member of silentpcreview), any 120mm fan faster than 800rpm is too loud for me, even 800rpm is pushing it, 700rpm is the sweet spot where I stop noticing the fan noise. I've read through this thread and while I see all the reports of great temps with 620, yet I see very few people saying what fan speeds do they run to achieve those temps, and I also see a lot of people running push/pull configuration to be more effective. All of this makes me want to go H100i to make sure I can run it with two 700-800rpm fans to be as quiet as possible. However, I'm going to be putting this into P280 case, so the rad would have to go on the top. Does anyone now if h100i tubes are long enough to reach from videocard to the top mounted rad in P280?

sorry i dont know. however i have been looking at deals all day and i was just in the online forum and
im not sure but there may be a h100 refurb on sale.. ( not sure if reburb is a good idea ) but i thought id throw that out.. sorry i dont have a link but i have 10 things going on.. :<<br /> On the flip side last week i got a ( one day sale) thermaltake water 2.0 extreme.. I have one in my other system and it has a thicker radiator and i was able to put it on top of my coolermaster haf 922 buy cutting a hole under the top front plastic cover so its not seen. I can measure those hoses.. if it helps. As i have the new one out of the box.
since i have never seen the h100 and was going off what other people said im going to revise that statement.. it seems the thermaltake has a thick housing.. when i measure just the top of the rad its like 1 3/8 the hoses are 13 inches. The outside bracket is 1 1/2. i think most of the asetek units have 21-22 fins per inch. I have a few.. .;>
good luck. too bad they dont make a large rad clc.. that will take a 200mm fan. That shoud quiet things down a bit.

Edit.. Im not familiar with your case but my haf 922 has the 200mm fan on inside top and you "could " put the rad on top of the fan without any other fans... Im not sure of the performance. tho..
maybe you can do that kind of configuration in your case.. thats all i got.
