Uhhmmmmm you can probably find some at a dollar store, if not any hardware / crafts store should have some.

They're just little straps that ... lock ...

can anyone tell me if a 7950 reference pcb will fit a corsair H60? I would look to swap my H60 from gtz 570 to ref 7950.

Hey all, new member here. Going to try this mod next week because I found a gigabyte 7970 OC for $320 on ebay. I pray it's not one of the voltage locked revisions. I had just bought an MSI 7950 twin frozr on amazon for the same price. That's currently running at 1150/1575 with the stock cooler at about 72c core on heavy load. One of these will get modded and the other will get returned / resold.

So far I ordered a 620 cooler and mounting bracket with the 92mm fan attachment extension. I see lots of chatter here about VRM temps. I narrowed it down to 2 options and would really love some feedback, and also some 92mm fan recommendations - PWM, non-pwm, noctua, etc?

Plan 1 -
Gelid Enhancement Kit Rev2 VRM sink (made for 6900s but looks like it will fit on the 7900s) - $15 - ebay link
2 packs of Zalman ZM-RHS1 ram sinks - $10 each pack from my local MicroCenter - amazon link
With this way I'm concerned about the lonely tiny VRM chip that's closer to the output end of the card, it would only be getting the 1 tiny heatsink and wouldn't be under the fan.

Plan 2 -
Swiftech full cover heatsink - $55 after shipping - http://www.swiftech.com/HD7900-HSF.aspx
$20 more than the above option and I might have to cut it a little to fit with the cooler block, but seems like it'd be more effective.

I'd like to get speeds somewhere between 1200/1600 and 1300/1800 without going the full WC loop route.

So I just got me a 6990 and it has an accelero twin turbo cooler on it. Which looks like the perfect base for setting up a dual of the mod on the card. Thing is i'm not sure if i should just sell the cooler instead? It doesnt fit in my case so I can either cut it up and have VRAM/VRM cooling with 2 clc pumps attached or I can sell the cooler and just go a different route...I was thinking of just going full loop using the CLC units as my waterblock/pumps in 1.

I'm confused; I tried this on my Nvidia card and so know the basic procedure (made a serious error in my exuberance and bricked the card) but it sounds like the process is slightly different on the AMD cards.

I'm planning on getting one of Dwood's brackets (probably the fan one, though I have a 140mm fan blowing right on the card so may not need it) but what I want to know is what's this about a shim and why do I need one? If I do need one, which one should I buy and how do I install it?

In my preliminary search it sounded like such things weren't effective, is that still true?

They aren't 100% efficient at transferring heat, but they are necessary. The AMD IHS is recessed and if you put on a watercooling block you won't get full contact. The shim fills that gap.

Dwood sells them and so will most watercooling sites like performance-pcs.com
