Ok cool. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll add that to my cart whenever I get around to buying my bracket from dwood.

Do you know if the fan for the VRAM is necessary? What about a heatsink for the voltage regulator?

So tomorrow I will be modifying my 6990 Accelero Pro to fit 2 Corsair CLC units on it, very little modification is needed I'm quite excited and also from this I have figured out a very simple and subtle yet solid way of mounting pretty much every square H-Series unit to pretty much any ATI card dating back to who knows when. I had completely overlooked it in the past and since figuring it out I have scrapped my previous design, but it may make a comeback for more modularity down the line. The design should work for any cards including X2 Dual GPU cards.

This new design should allow me to create full coverage card specific heatsinks that the bracket can be attached to and switched around without needing a new bracket when getting a new card, The bracket can attach to the H60/80/100 and possibly the new I variants. If I had an H40/50/70 to experiment with I could probably add it to the design as well as the H55 but unfortunately I don't, I'm pretty late to the game and it looks like dwood pretty much already dominates the board but I see him mostly on the green team and with the Antec side of things so I'm still excited non the less.thumb.gif

Do I need a shim for the H50 on a 7970, or is it only for the other brackets with the square mounts? Looking to replace my H50 soon and this would be a great way to recycle it.

I dare say yes. The shim is independant of the waterblock

So results are in, the bracket works pretty dang well still a couple bugs to iron out, Because I did all the measurements/marking by hand and drill pressed everything and had to use drill bit for countersinking the prototype isn't perfectly fitted but pretty darn close. close enough that I could run it 24/7 no problems ever, and still be lower than any temp I've seen so far...Currently the H80 is mounted to the 6970 and I'm getting 23-25C Idle, Idk what the room temp is currently and fans are setup in push/pull 2 aerocool sharks/no case. Just a basic quick furmark bench.

Because it isn't a perfectly flush mount 1 side of the gpu is a little hotter then the others when testing but still lower then anything I've seen on here so far. For the side that is making perfect contact when running Furmark benchmark I didn't get out of the 30's so once it is perfectly fitted I'd expect that to be the number across the board perhaps a little lower since it will be making perfect contact. Here's a teaser..Ill post more results once I get a perfect bracket made.

I fired it up this morning and I couldn't resist these temps screens....I have my CPU temps for comparison I know its just idles on startup but still biggrin.gif CPU is on a H100 with 4 sharks no case push/pull, oh and yes it is that cold in my room kookoo.gif

I know that a lot of you chaps are saying it's not strictly necessary, but regardless I would be more comfortable if I had cooling on the VRAM and VRMs, and on that I was wondering; can anyone suggest a decent VRM heatsink? Finding ones for the VRAM seems to be easy enough, but not VRMs - it has to be available in the UK as well.

I've seen a lot of people sticking these on the vrms:
http://www.amazon.com/Enzotech-MOS-C1-MOSFET-Heatsinks-Pack/dp/B004CLDIHK

If you have a radeon, this might work. I am trying this one on my 7970 shortly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gelid-Enhancement-KIT-Rev-2-ICY-Vision-AMD-HD6950-6970-/330751419406

I'm sure you can use the model numbers to find the same thing from the UK versions of amazon/ebay.

Ah, that second one looks pretty spot-on, shame it's not copper but ah well. I was planning on using Enzotech stuff initially, but every time I go to order them nobody has any stock tongue.gif

I'll have to wait till the end of the month now anyway, so I'll let you be the guinea pig if you don't mind, be sure to post back here when you've tried it out.

Can anyone record idle/load temp of vrm with
  • heatsink without fans blowing
  • heatsink with fans blowing
  • no heatsink, but with fans blowing directly on them. (Dwood bracket or something)
