ive already done the mod on mine and its great, i was just wondering if the 6950 n 6970 share the same pcb if they share the same ram.
ie some 6950's using 6970 ram on there boards

My H80i just arrived yesterday and you could say I'm "pumped". Just waiting on Dwood's bracket now.

Here it is. With this version of the 7970 I had to file down the edges of dwood's bracket to get it to clear the heatsinks. I'm not seeing the performance I thought I would and I'm considering either lapping the copper shim or tryin a different thermal paste. Lastly I don't even have a fan on those heatsinks and they stay under 80C. GPU is still getting up to 60C but I do have my card overclocked.

Before:

After. Good guy Sapphire. Check out those stock heatsinks.:

H80i.

Anyone have their rad mounted at the bottom of the case as intake? How are your VRM temps?

My VRM temps stay below 80C with an overclocked card and no fan. I have 2 120mm corsair intake case fans on the front of the case and a 140mm side intake fan so between those stock heatsinks and 3 fans, its enough air movement to safely cool the vrms.

Edit: My H80i rad is sitting at the top of my case where the dvd drives are usually mounted and I have the fans pointed to exhaust the heat out of the front of my case.

@angelofhavoc I was wondering if you could post a photo of dwoods bracket on the card ( not sure where you had to file it ) so that anyone with this card will know what to do.
nice card..
what were the stock vrm temps under load?

I used mx-4 and this weekend bought some more tim from newegg as it was on sale and I had previous coupon.. I think I got the big tube for 19.99
the small tube would have been enough but I couldn't find it in stock locally. I think I had to pay between 10-15.00 at microcenter for the small tube.
I had artic silver but wanted to get a non-conductive and non-capacitive paste for the gpu. my temps went down 10c but I did reseat at the same time and make other improvements such as upgraded fans. I went from stock thermaltake pwm fans to sp120 quiet edition fans.
mx-4 seems to spread easier.

I think this was the one of the better review sites for thermal paste I could find..
http://skinneelabs.com/thermal-paste/2011-2012-thermal-paste-review/
it shows the difference in paste with different clamping force used. maybe it will help.

Thanks for the reply sunset. My stock vrm temps were in the mid 70's and it's very surprising to me as they are about the same temperatures as before the mod and I didn't even buy the bracket with the fan mount. I'm thinking that the reasoning behind this is that the stock fan assembly actually blows hot air over the vrms as opposed to my current setup where it's cool air only.

Here is the bracket on my gpu. you can see the edges that I filed on the top and the left bottom. I'm surprised that I'm the first to do this mod on this version of 7970.

I will more than likely buy some better thermal paste soon and see if it helps. I may have put a little bit too much on.

Edit: Does anyone know if I need to remove the excess thermal paste that is around the edges in the above picture? That is the paste that came on the gpu and I tried to get as much off as I could but what you see in the picture is what I left on the card and it has been working well so far. Still makes me nervous for some reason.

Has anyone used Swiftech's MCW82-7900 with a Antec 620?

Don't know if I should buy Enzotechs heatsink or the MCW82 since, MCW82-7900 cost $40 and two sets of Enzotech mosfet and VRAM heatsinks totals around $70.
