Need your opinions on HSF orientation, fans, etc.

Hi all!

So, I think that I have too many fans in my rig's mainboard compartment (5 x 120mm, 2 x 80mm (1 on the airbos, one on the VF900).

Here is an image of the Noctua cooler. The blowhole 120 is on the right. As you can see the "push" fan on the HSF is about 2" from the blowhole. Is that too close, is it just causing turbulence?

In addition, do you think that I should re-seat the HSF so that it blows toward the rear instead of the blowhole?

Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

Well if you can get up to 3.2 it must be working _fairly_ well

Best solution (IMHO): Take off HSF - lap it, Reseat pointed out the back

Thanks for the input. I have the HSF and the CPU lapped already, there is a log w/ pics posted on this site.

I am thinking that you are right: I should re-orient the HSF. Would you (or anyone) leave the 120mm blowhole fan in place?

I'd take it out if it wasn't _doing_ anything, but it appears to be helping out airflow for the video card...so...I'd say leave it. If it's making a whine or something obnoxious I'd probably remove it, but you have to consider: Would I want a blower if I didn't have one? lol

Right-on dood! I'm gonna play with my air circulation and see what's best. Rep+ for you, thanks for your time and advice.

Well if there isn't a problem I'd say its cool. You could mount that fan as an intake, and get some air blowing onto that heatsink from outside which would be cool aswell...looks like you've got it going on though. LOTS of fans!
