twisted pair on my PSU, safe to unravel

I just sleeved my PSU for the first time, I had a question on the purple black wires. They were twisted togethor on my PSU, in order to sleeve them I unraveled them and left them that way, is that ok?

Wikipedia says they are ground and +5V standby so I can't see why there would be a need to twist them, any insights?

I'd imagine they are twisted to keep them together.
Was one wire very small guage? (Thin?) - if so I'd imagine it's been paired with a regular wire to keep it from breaking inside.

If not, I fiddled with a OEM PSU the other day that had two wires (Purple and something color) that were connected to a single pin on the 24-pin connector.

When I cut the cables (I only needed a couple of 12v/5v conections) it wouldn't power on until the two wires that were on the same pin, were connected.

You will be fine, normally its just something simple to explain why they are together, like they are connected together on the atx connector or inside the psu
