Ultra Low Budget OC

Thread Starter
I've been reading these forums for some time now and the information you guys provide to others has always been helpful to me. I recently bought a new PC to replace my xp2400 - the $100 3400+ Venice and Biostar mobo deal that newegg has. I've OC'd it to 2.7Ghz (225x12) and it runs fairly stable. My questions are:

1) I've got the Vcore running on 1.520v. Is this relatively safe for my S754 Venice? I've got an Arctic Freezer Pro 64 for cooling.

2) My mobo (Biostar NF325-A7) doesn't seem to have an option to change the multiplier. My understanding is that the CPU has it unlocked down - is there another way to access that other than the BIOS?

3) Is there anything else I can do (please refer to the attached CPU-Z shots)?

Thanks for any help.

I'd make sure it passes atleast 8 hours worth of prime95 (blend, torture test), or if you are really lazy use the 30 minute OCCT stability test.

They usually fail within the couple of minutes....if not seconds. 2.7+ on a socket 754 system is quite impressive.

The only thing that will tell you if you are safe or not voltage wise are your temps. Don't bother with idle temps, use Prime 95 or other program to completely load the core and watch the temps, if they get above 50c then you should drop the OC/Volts until you get a load tempature of less than 50c. The next step is the Ram, I don't know how happy your kingston stuff will be, but try tightening the timings a bit (go one at a time, until you crash) And do try to get 1t command timings, it's a pretty healthy performance booster. Don't be too afraid to drop your CPU OC to get your ram timings better, tighter ram is better than looser ram at the speed you are running it at (provided you don't have to drop it a ton.) Play around with it and let me know what you come up with.

Fatal05 was right, I ran Prime95 blend and it failed after 10 mins. I lowered the FSB (215x12) and upped the voltage on my memory to 2.7v to get 2.5-3-3-8 1T. I'm gonna try to get CAS to 2.

As far as temps, I think my sensors are out of whack. Should I be looking at my Temp1 or Core on speedfan? I got 43C max on Temp1 and 51C max on Core on load when I had it at 225x12. I haven't had a chance to run Prime95 again, but I'll try tonight.

Thanks for all the help.
