Id go with the FX as well. The 1100 is a great processor and is about the same as the 8120 in most applications but the FX pulls ahead on others. At the end of the day, it is the better performing processor so thats the one Id go with. Put a healthy overclock on it and youre set.

The new x264 HD Benchmark 4.0 ups the ante by using the latest r1913 x264 encoder as well as other changes under the hood. This makes the x264 HD Benchmark 4.0 the new best tool for testing the full capabilities of modern multi-core, multi-threaded processors.

In reality r1913 was made in February 2011, No AMD FX optimizations because FX wasn't out

FX processors aren't bad chips at all, its that for some reason AMD lowered the IPC's on it. And Windows still doesn't support its new form of SMT and either do most software applications. But yes I'd go with the 8120 as well, make sure you setup a decent overclock.

I'm also considering one of these two CPUs, but I want to go for the 8150 or should I just stick with the CPU I have for now. Which one would be better for gamming?

Stick with what you got for now...wait for 20h-2Fh Piledriver

If it's video games you will want either a faster HT link or a better PCI-E link

Well then, does it support the AM3+ socket? If so then sure, I'll wait for it.
Edit: I found out that it does support AM3+.

my motherboard is the asus m5a97 evo.. it has an 8+1 vrm setup so ocing is not a problem.. i have heard that 8120 can hit a max of 4.6 at 1.4v.. is that enough oc?
currently i have a hyper 212+.. will this suffice for 4.6-4.8ghz? i dont want to increase vcore beyond 1.4 at any cost as this will be 24/7 usage.. in between i will be using photoshop, combustion and other apps which are majorly single threaded as of now.. along with that will be using sound forge for audio editing sometimes....

not to mention gaming once in a while(rarely).. so as you can see it is a mix of single and multi threaded workout.. what would you suggest now??
