Yep. Phenom II is no more. Im not sure about the Athlon II line though. I would think theyre being axed as well to make way for Llano.

IMO, it would be better to find an used Phenom II CPU as a placeholder than to invest in LGA1366 (where Intel already discontinued it). We can't really say if Piledriver is worth it, because official detail isn't out yet.

My opinion may be somewhat biased based on the fact that I already own an 1100t. The truth is the current AMD offering do not warrant the premium price tag they are at now vs their performance. A 1100t has better performance per core and scales really well when OC'd plus it' retails $30 cheaper then a FX-8120 and $90 cheaper than a FX-8150.

nothing biased.. the 1100t is cheaper, better IPC, more vfm and much more stable compared to a 8120.. but the reason for my asking was that it is EOL...

but the 100t is a 1090t but with one notch higher clock speed so really a 1090t would be better and both cpu's clock well it's just you need to gt a good cpu to overclock high. and with piledriver that is expected for 2013 so really it depends on what you are going to use the computer for if you don't want to put alot of money for something that will be only for maybe movies or games then a fx 6k series would do and/or fx8120 since the 8150 and now the 8170 are the same as the 8120 but a higher multiplier

I wouldnt downgrade to a i7-860. A FX-8120 would outperform it in most applications.

I think Piledriver will be worth the wait. AMD is touting 10+% improvement over Bulldozer so while it wont be enough to topple Ivy Bridge (or Sandy Bridge for that matter) off the top of the performance hill, it still should be a very good and capable processor. Im kinda betting on it. I needed a motherboard replacement from my aging 780G ASRock and thought about going with an Intel setup but figured Id ride out AMD for another round and hope that Piledriver is something pretty solid. I think it will be. AMD screwed up Phenom 1 too and Phenom 2 was a very good comeback, and Bulldozer is no where near as bad as Phenom 1 was.

@MacLeod how much voltage do you need to run the 1090 at 3.9 ghz..

piledriver is touted to have an increased IPC.. that would definitely help..

1.44 volts according to AI Suite. I had to set it different in the BIOS and tinker with the LLC settings but that's the voltage it would run and pass Prime95 stable for several hours.

I think I can go higher but I need to put it under water to do it cause I'm in the mid 50C's under Prime. If I add more than 1.45, it starts creeping into the 60's.
