Best bang-for-the-buck video card?

Thread Starter
I'm kicking around the idea of upgrading the video card in my PC. Right now, I'm running a EVGA GT220 with 1GB of VRAM. My processor is a Pentium G6950 overclocked to 4.1GHz.

I have dual monitors, one 1920x1080 with HDMI, and 1024x768 with VGA. Games I routinely play are GTA4, Source-engined games like Portal 2, TF2, and Left 4 Dead series, Skyrim, and League of Legends.

The current card handles everything I throw at it right now with no complaints. The only downside is that I have to run stuff at low to medium settings usually.

I'd demote the GT220 to a PhysX card, but my MB only has one big PCI-Express slot. It can go low-profile, so I might look into a PCI-to PCI-Express adapter later on.

What would be a good, budget-conscious (under $150) nVidia card to replace the GT220 without wasting a bunch of potential with a CPU bottleneck?

but in the meantime, I'd say go with a gtx 460 If you look around ebay or the OCN market place you should be able to find one at around $100

You can grab a non-448 core MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 560ti 1 GB for ~$200 USD on sale/after MIR. It's comparable to a GTX 470, but runs substantially cooler and quieter.

Updated original post. Budget is $150 max, and looking for nVidia only, preferably EVGA but will consider other brands.

Your best bet would be a used 560 TI (non 448) or a 460
post #9 of 18
If you have to have an EVGA Nvidia card than a 460 is the way to go IMO.

You could find a GTX 470 for a $150 budget and a GTX 460 will run you about $100 - $120. <--- If you buy used.
