Ok, so I need something to hold me over until IB gets here, so I thought, what better time to start learning how to solder? So, if someone could tell me a few things regarding getting started, I'd be infinitely grateful, thanks!

1. Anything I should know
2. name a card or two that are very cheap that can be first projects (cheap ones guys, likely as not, I'll end up killing them)
3. Recommend an Iron
4. Anything else I should get?
5. ???

Start off by practicing on burned gpu's and wire. Buy a hobby soldering kit with multiple tips. Something with a precision set of tips.

1: Always heat the part needed to be soldered, not the solder.

2: Clean areas with alcohol

3: If you have it, flux will help with solder adhesion.

4: Have some spare copper strips, or wire. This is what you can use to remove solder from mistakes.

5: a 9600gt or 9800gt is a good starting point, and there is a lot of material out there on how to's

I'm actually pretty excited to start working on them smile.gif Depending on how big my fine is this afternoon in court, I'll probably also be getting an i7-930 ($130) and a classy 4 way ($190) cool.gif

I didn't know you had an X58-OC, how do like it?

i like it alot.. if triple channel mem kits [good ones] werent soo expensive, I would probably still be looking for 1366 cpu's to freeze on it. For now, I have settled on using it as families daily rig.
