To get a conroe you have to get a MB, CPU and ram, now if you allready have that for a 939 setup then your just getting the cpu.

My conroe setup for the MB, Cpu, & ram came to $650.00

That's a horrible deal in my opinion. For that price you could have an E6300 with cash to spare. And the E6300 would totally own that CPU.

true, but for people like me, its a good deal. Because I don't want to have to go out and buy a whole new system, ie mobo, ram, cpu.

At $239 its a nice upgrade with my current system. And its gonna cost me 1/3 of what a E6600 upgrade would.

Cause you went for the E6600 ? 4x512's..

But theres deals where there is E6300 + Mobo = Combo for $220? 210? i believe.. and add 100 bucks for the ram and there you go spend approximately 300 and enjoy your new conroe rig. for just about $300-360.. and use your old HDD's , etc..!

I just priced it out, with a E6300 and to have a mobo, and ram comparable to what I have now, it would cost about $488.69 including the cpu.

220 huh? That's one amazingly crappy mobo. The ASUS P5B, which seems to be the more popular OCing mobo, goes for 194. The CPU itself is 180. And you can't get more that 1 GB of off-brand with 100. If you want to OC, you'll be spending at least 150-200 for RAM. 2 GB will set you back almost 300. That comes to a total of at least 500.

Edit\\\\ My bad, I was researching and typing and didn't see atomicfushion post his post.

exactly what I found, and I picked this mobo ASUS P5ND2 and with shipping and it came to about $490. Alot more then just the fx-55.

Good deal. It would be nice to have an unlocked multi? How high does the multi actually go? Is it dependent on each board?

And C2D is not always the answer guys, some of us just like AMD and probably will continue to go with them (someone like myself). I dont need to buy another mobo and my RAM awesome.

This is almost exactly the same debate as new AGP card or PCI express card. One is obviously cheaper in the short term but one will serve you much better down the road.

That motherboard does not support Core 2 Duo...

the real comparison should be what else to get for socket 939. The main alternative is this:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester 2.4GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4600BVBOX $237.99
