Update 22

As promised prior, here's are the updates! And I got quite a bit of stuff done actually!!
Thanks for the hundredth time neighbor?

img2297h.jpg

My room in a complete mess... garage is off limits at the moment for some other reasons :thumb

img2298z.jpg

So, I'm putting my wood framework together. The main pieces that is (the base, motherboard and the back panel)
Everything will be done with screws and a mix of glue, so this ain't no flimsy stuff.

img2299b.jpg

One mounted so far:

img2302o.jpg

Can stand up on itself now yay, much better for demonstrations.

img2303ci.jpg

Okay, so that was last night's stuff. Now for this morning's, where I get the real deal done.
Opening scene~

img2307e.jpg

img2309s.jpg

img2310te.jpg

After reading through wood working tips,I know to putty over the screw heads to get a flush look.

img2311k.jpg

One support block, crap load more to go

img2312g.jpg

The two main blocks which secure the back and base.

img2314g.jpg

The screw work, as I said this will be putty-ed over.

img2316va.jpg

img2317k.jpg

Now for the motherboard panel:

img2320k.jpg

Very neat! The two other blocks makes it easier for me to measure out stuff because it makes it stand quite straight

img2321je.jpg

img2322u.jpg

OKAY, all mounted biggrin.gif

img2324s.jpg

img2326yb.jpg

img2327p.jpg

img2328em.jpg

img2329mc.jpg

img2330q.jpg

You can faintly see the screw heads on the left hand side of the mothnerboard panel.

img2331w.jpg

Okay no for powersupply mounting.
I won't actually be screwing the powersupply in, rather I will create a very tight fitting slot that secures the powersupply safely in its place:

img2332rw.jpg

You can see a wooden spacer which places the powersupply away from the harddrive cage that will come in front of it.

The powersupply will not shift a lot, plus there will be an enclosure over ther powersupply that channels all the hot air outside of the case.

img2334fq.jpg

img2336a.jpg

Aerial

img2337y.jpg

Alright, that is enough for now, I still have more to go but I do not want to heap everything into one update.

TOO BE CONTINUED thumb.gif

Update 23

Hey guys!
So continuing from where I left off fro lat update,

Now I'm going to have to deal with the motherboard I/O panel.

img2338yk.jpg

I used this metal bracket to measure out the hole and obviously I will be incorporating it into my mod aswell.

img2339fa.jpg

The problem is, it's not made to be mounted like so. A slight bit of the bulges out from the outside:

img2340t.jpg

img2341e.jpg

Solution!

img2342bu.jpg

I'll make two 7mm plywood strips beneath the tabs which come out of the panel, and I will place more strips mounted vertically on the other sides of the panel to support it.

img2343iv.jpg

The screw holes are there for a reason biggrin.gif

img2344kq.jpg

Marked out and ready to cut:

img2345zd.jpg

A few fun pictures for the end of this update:

img2346ut.jpg

img2347m.jpg

Okay, now this is all packed up for the next time I work on it biggrin.gif
Next update I will be planning on mounting the right-side wooden panel, which will include more 120mm radiator mounts, a powersupply breathing hole and possibly cathode mounts biggrin.gif

I will also make plans on DVD/RW drive mounting, fan controller mounting and powerbutton placement next week. I will possibly start on planning out a third compartment to place the pump and other things.

Thanks for reading guys!
Stay tuned for more!!

Update 23(i)

Hey guys!

So just short update, introducing a few concepts before I jump at it.

So now to switch mounting and the third compartment:

An example of a mounting solution:

Discovered something else, since I don't have a proper threading tool to thread a hole so big to be able to comfortably fit a power switch I looked for other options.
I only realised you could unscrew the massive metal bolt off the main unit:

There, and a washer comes handy too:

When I mount it, only the black side will be seen as the metal ring will be on the other side pressing the switch forward.

And the third compartment will be here:

Just above the watercooling tube outlets/inlets

The compartment will hold various DVD/RW drives, a watercooling pump and various monitoring devices.

This update was short hahaha, planning is only very minor anyways.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE!!

Update 24

Okay, the following updates are all concentrated on constructing, drilling and mock-ups. So there's a lot of practical here and less planning thumb.gif

So picking up where I left off, I was up to the 'third compartment' which would store miscellaneous components such as DVD/RW drives, fan controllers and in general 5.25" drives.

img2385a.jpg

Instead of screws, I'm using nuts and extra long bolts to secure this.

img2386gt.jpg

Securing the support blocks onto the compartment panel:

img2387n.jpg

Voila!

img2388ul.jpg

img2389jo.jpg

Measuring up, I made some minor mistakes before which I will have to edit sooner or later rolleyes.gif Life would be so much better with a disc sander at home.

img2390k.jpg

After some drilling and screwing: done!

img2391g.jpg

img2392v.jpg

img2393tb.jpg

Furthermore, I am making plans to create another wooden border which seperates the radiator/watercooling compartment from the powersupply and harddrive cage beneath. This way I won't be scared *****less when I have water leaks tongue.gif

img2394z.jpg

img2395u.jpg

The good thing about this design is the watercooling components are seperated from the motherboard, cpu and main components. The watercooling compartment can get as messy as it likes thumb.gif

Okay this marks the end of this update, I've got another one coming up this afternoon so stay tuned! biggrin.gif:D

Update 25

HEY GUYS! So as promised, here’s the update! (although it’s a day late, forgive me)
Everything set out to be worked upon:
img2397sc.jpg
I just realised I unknowingly created a very simple and secure mounting system for the motherboard panel, it’s as simple as slide it into the slot and screw!
img2398l.jpg
img2399i.jpg
img2400g.jpg
img2401md.jpg
Just a few more pictures of its current state:
img2402p.jpg
The new 5.25” bay compartment:
img2403c.jpg
img2404t.jpg
The motherboard/components compartment is now smaller, but it will not matter as it’s already big enough. This way, I won’t be able to install a ceiling exhaust fan but that is unnecessary.
img2406n.jpg
img2407qe.jpg
Now, onto a prototype of the fourth compartment, if you could call it that:
img2408m.jpg
The main point of this fourth compartment is to separate the power supply and harddrive cage from the watercooling components, i.e. the reservoir, radiator, pump and miscellaneous tubing which will be located above it. To prevent any water from reaching the powersupply/harddrives I am introducing a separator:
img2409tf.jpg
All this clutter of cables… thank god for modular powersupplies
img2413j.jpg
With the radiator installed, I will have this much of a gap to secure some sort of barrier. I am unsure whether to make this separator acrylic or out of plywood. Either way, the water won’t seep into the material (the wood will be painted and lacquered)
img2416dv.jpg
What the compartment may look like, obviously I’m using an oversized panel:
img2417td.jpg
It will just touch the top part of the power supply, this way it’ll help keep the powersupply in place.
img2418lz.jpg
Okay, now I’m off to securing the right side panel, which is pretty important protection and adds to the strength of the entire structure.
img2419ww.jpg
Shall be like so:
img2420iq.jpg
img2421r.jpg
And this will be continued in the next update (: More drilling and stuffs & misc.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE!!!
