Crossfire/driver issues with my 7970s - Page 3

post #21 of 25
Thread Starter
Got me replacement card from NewEgg and it works perfectly--temps and frame rates are just like my first. Haven't tested out crossfire yet though, but it overclocks to max in catalyst out of the box.

Anyone noticed an FPS decrease going from the first release drivers (CD drivers included with ref. cards) to the 8.921.2 RC11 drivers??

I tested my new card at stock and at OC using Heaven with the RC11 drivers installed. At stock I had a score of 1094, max fps: 69.4, ave. of 43.9. OC'd score of 1219, max fps 76.2, ave. 48.9.

I wanted to see if the scores/frame rates matched the card I had kept, but when I looked on my spreadsheet with previous test results, the scores/fps were much higher. (scores of 1580ish and max fps over 130, with ave. fps of 63. (almost the same for all three runs). This was like 2 weeks ago.

When I put the old card in to double check (last night), the scores were in keeping with the new card--the lower results. About 1094 score, ave. fps of 43ish etc.

The only thing I can think of is that I was testing using the earlier drivers two weeks ago and got better results with them. I haven't reverted back to them to try but will tonight. Anyone heard anything like that--older drivers giving better fps for 7970?

I've been away for about a week so have been out of the loop... (no watercooling pun intended)

Uninstall everything, Catalyst, Trixx, Afterburner or other third party softwares.

Clean it it with Atiman Uninstaller v.6.2.0

Install the Catalyst version that gave you good result. Both cards in the system with crossfire bridge mounted.

Note;

If you are using MaxRevo 1350w. Do not overload a single rail with 2x 7970s.

There are only 2 dedicated +12v, i.e., +12V3 & +12V5.

First 7970 > +12V3

Second 7970 > +12V5
