990x 4.6 Ghz 1.368 - 1.376 Vcore - Page 8

Id love a 990x and if i ever got one i would no way run 1.45v 24/7.
Now im not saying you are,or are going to,but it has been mentioned in this thread about running as high as that 24/7.

If you read the Intel Data Sheet for i7-900 x 32nm you will see Intel quite clearly state that the max vcore for these CPU is 1.4v,even then thats borderline.

Just worth keeping in mind when your running a deccent CPU,unless of course you dont care and your just benching the hell out of it thumb.gif

Thank you Super, Based on my settings what do you think? It looks like it's within the guidlines or do you think if I decided to play games on those settings for long hours over a period of time it will affect the life of my product? I'm definately not having a problem with games even on default settings but I figured I'd give it a nice boost.

I have'nt excatly decided yet what I'm going to do with this PC as I'm new to OC but I'm really enjoying it. If I decide to start pushing the limits then for sure I would keep in mind that it may damage or reduce the life of it.

Just out of curiosity if I had some type of very high end cooling liquid nitrogen or w/e will that matter at all? I don't fully understand ESD but is that what is creating the problem when you go to high voltages? is there a way around it?

Got this off web

is a serious issue in solid state electronics, such as integrated circuits. Integrated circuits are made from semiconductor materials such as silicon and insulating materials such as silicon dioxide. Either of these materials can suffer permanent damage when subjected to high voltages; as a result, there are now a number of antistatic devices that help prevent static build up.

The cooler you keep the chip the better. Your fine with your voltages for 24/7 use. Maybe set the pll and qpi manually if you want. I've ran my 980x around 1.45 vcore for over 1 1/2 yrs now and had no problems. No need for liquid nitrogen, a good WC setup will do perfectly fine. Going with a LN or other extreme cooling options will bring other things into the picture (condesation, insulating, etc).

(PLL & QPI) Ok, I'll try and lower those volatges. Is it better to lower both at same time and run tests for stability or lower one first to its lowest voltage then do the other if so which one's first or does it not matter,

Lower one first, test, then lower the other, test. Keep walking them back till a error occures then test for some time again.

Gotcha, hows the other settings in BIOS does everything else look good?

Also forgot to ask if you noticed my RAM was 1896 did'nt OC it. Is it a good idea to OC your ram ? Will you notice a big difference in performance? WIll it affect it's life? Is there a way to montior your RAM temperature (not sure if the same idea applies there as it does to cpu.)

It says as well when I pass 1.65v for RAM that it may permantly damage CPU? Does this mean that when the ram is not using all the power it transefers it to cpu lol im probably out to lunch there

Ya it shows the same in my bios. You probably wont see a diifference from 1896 to 2000. I'ld leave it where it is and leave dram volt there too.

Everything else looks good thumb.gif

Yes it looks good, now 1896 and 2000 No real performance increase, But...1896 to lets say idk....2650, u can tell a difference. But it's not worth it, Unless you want a Record Benchmark.

It looks like I've got the lowest possible voltages set. I'd like to hear your comments as well again if you think there's anything else I should change. I have'nt touched the video card settings at all left those at default. Not sure if thats something that should be adjusted or not. Below are my settings in Bios , Temperatures from IBT and the CpuZ. I read somewhere that the chip for the cpu varies in its quality and apparently getting a good chip is like winning the lottery. Based on these settings do you think this chip is a winner? Soon I'm going to be getting into this Chess game my paps told me about where you can use an engine, books and end game to play other opponents PC to PC. OC'n there would probably be a huge bonus and a good way to test stability. I think it puts a 100% load on.

Assuming these settings are the best they can be, I guess my next step would be to run Prime 95 for 24 hours on blend and then one again on small ffts? I've done the IBT on standard 10 times on 10 runs and it was successful.

Running Prime Blend st the moment temps are 50's and mid 60's a lot lower than IBT gonna leave it for 24 hours and see how it goes .... so far so good

Thanks again for all your help you guys made this process real ez.
