Air flow direction?

Hi guys,

I'm pretty sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find it so... which is better? To push air INTO the case or OUT the case? I'm gonna mod my 800D to put a 360 rad in the bottom facing sideways and another 480 rad on the top. They both will be in a push/pull configuration.

According to logic, the top rad should be pushing air OUT and the bottom rad should be pulling air IN (along with my rear 120 fan). Does this sound good? What is better?

Also, by putting the bottom rad to pull air INTO the case, should I place it facing flat on the bottom so air goes straight to the case intead of sideways? It would also help me to not drill/mod the left panel, althought I'm kinda exited about that tongue.gif

Thanks in advance!

The best set up is always going to be pulling air from the outside if said air is going to pass through a rad. At the same time though you need to make sure that there are enough exhaust locations to keep the case from building positive pressure.

As for the side mounting you'd be better served to have the rad sitting directly over the air intake.

Best setup is to have a universal direction for airflow, with both an intake and an exhaust--aside from that, you can't argue with heat convection direction. thumb.gif

Thanks guys.

So basically I should set up everything so the air either flows from the bottom of the case straight out through the top (one tunnel of air) or both rads pushing air into the case while not creating any positive nor negative pressure. Cool.

The only question now is which one will give me that degree less of temperature we all look for.

About the bottom radiator, my original idea was to place it sideways (and cut a 360 on the side panel to let air in) and make some sort of "deflector" to push the air up after it has went thru the rad... What do you think of this? Just a quarter of a pipe that deflects the air 90°.

Thanks again!

I have a 360 rad on top and 240 rad on bottom of my 800D case... and both are intake. My bottom rad is exhausted through a modified side panel fan... and the I have an exhaust fan out the back. The reason why I went with intake on my rads is because it sounds more reasonable to pull cooler air from the outside through the rads.
