They already are making a software workaround. All it does is delay HTC while they change whatever software that is supposedly violating a software patent.

Or maybe it's just a few really greedy palms. If you were the judge that made the decision as to who (potentially) loses billions of dollars and you were discussing a bribe, how much would you charge? If Apple stood to gain 1 Billion dollars, then a 10 million dollar bribe would be only 1% of Apple's profit. Apple wouldn't even feel the bite.

Of course, I don't believe that our fine, upstanding corporations would stoop so low as to pervert justice. /sarc

Though on the other hand, I do wish Apple had spent more on R&D and less on lawsuits. Apple spent just 2% of revenue last year for R&D, compared to MSFT (13%) and GOOG (14%). Even HP spent 3% of revenue as R&D...
There's only so much you can spend when you only make a handful of devices and computers. Apple actually increased the amount they spent on R&D over the last year which is good and hopefully continues on to the next year.

What does Apple really make from an R&D perspective? They are just a very expensive Dell. They contract other companies to create the product. Even the software they write is outsourced to another company. Then they package it into pretty box and put out commercials and ads. That is innovation.
