Maybe someone can help me out here, I can't decide on whether i should pick up a 3570k or a 3770k. I mostly game and i also do a little CAD work here and there. the 3570k is going for 189.99 and the 3770k is going for 229.99 at my local place. Im just wondering if i see any real performance boost over the 3570k if i got a 3770k...

TYPO? drool.gif

3770k appears still above $300: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3770K-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B007SZ0EOW
3570k is still above $200: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B007SZ0E1K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1356174168&sr=1-1&keywords=3570k

If your local shop (by the way tell me what shop this is so I can make a trip) is dropping the price by nearly $100, I'd say consider the 3770k simply because you're getting a way-better-than-average price.

If, in fact the prices you stated are inaccurate and mine are more correct, it would be back to the basics and I'd say do some searching for this comparison and see what you get, on top of responses here (sounds like a no-duh suggestion but I'm sure some people including myself forget to google things).

Can your programs take advantage of hyperthreading? Do you have a GPU? If you want to save some cash for a GPU the lower end CPU would help with that, but if you can take advantage of hyperthreading then the 3770k and/or have a GPU already, your rig might be better and more future-proof if you get into more intensive hyperthreading applications (you might just new hardware by that time though, hard to say what tech will do).

I honestly don't know a lot about that, but from what I'm reading (yeah I googled it because I forgot what I learned when I decided between these two) those are the main differences. If it makes a difference I chose the 3770k, but I also wish I could afford a GPU (don't have the same job I did when I bought the rig, and don't really need one, but I do want one). I wouldn't downgrade for a GPU though because right now, it feels good to have the 3770k, and it should feel good for a while.thumb.gif

(watch Intel will blow us outta the watter tomorrow now that the world didn't end and my computer will suck rolleyes.gif)

Still though, if you can get the 3770k for that price...either everything you buy and your income is less money than the rest of the world (and thus my point is mute) or you got yourself one hell of a deal waiting! smile.gif

yep, custom item you have to purchase used, or get lucky asking NZXT for (probably a sponsor thing but they denied me..sadsmiley.gif despite some having had luck)

nope, you can't order them they're just second hand

I spend some of my Jetta funds on my PC, I didn't spend a lot though and considering spending some more for a GPU, It's a gaming PC that can't game, lolz
You're Welcome, we are a nice community.
Check www.techbargains.com for constant deals and the for sale forums here as well.

Thanks for the link, reputable site? It looks kinda confusing do you order from them or does it find sites?

Also go to slickdeals.net and set some deal notifications for things. I scored a super-nice 3tb Hitachi external drive for only $99 shipped thanks to that site. basically a forum about finding stuff CHEAP and it's very well organized.

Techbargains is a great site, just search for computer parts/components/storage and anything else you are looking for and choose the deal, it will take you to another page to activate the deal and you're done. xD It will tell you how you are saving as well and keep the page open in case you need to see a promo code. I completely ignore all rebates but still save a lot. Good luck!

Thanks for the slickdeals.net xD
