That being said; I would never trust an NZXT, or for that matter, most other onboard controllers, to be capable of that for continuous use.
When you look at controllers, look physically for capacitor / inductor size and heat sink size on each power transistor / mosfet.
I'd trust the built in controller for maybe 12 to 15 W max, and even then, I wouldn't trust it to something critical.
Much like stereo system power ratings, it's a lot more impressive to give some sort of "peak" power rating than the "RMS with all channels driven" rating.
A cooling pump is about the last thing anyone should ever plug onto a built in controller.
And for what it's worth, I had my 410 window mod posted on the NZXT forum back in January, just after the 410s came out.
Darlene

Thanks for the info darlene. And you did have your window before greg and wayyyy before me. I wasn't even on this thread till april. I think he just thought I used his idea in my build and was flattered. But like I said I try to not do the exact same thing as other people. I will though use ideas and give them my own personal twist. But with a panel so basic in shape and size as every other pc out there it's kid of hard to keep coming out with 100% original ideas. And I do agree with you about the way they rate fan controllers being like stereo equipment. With the MAX Output like that is what important and not the RMS output. That's why I'm going to hit it with the multi-meter today and see what it is real world rating and go off of that. I'll tell you though for being a stock controller I have noticed that it is better than most aftermarket budget controllers out there. I have an Aerocool F6XT that I'm thinking of maybe using in my rig till I can afford a Sentry but I noticed that the stock one seems to do better work at least from my experience with it in my last rig.

Good Job NZXT Phantom 410! thumb.gif

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mana-136-midgard-ii-phantom-410,3203-9.html

"NZXT’s Phantom 410 provides the lowest temperatures, lowest noise, and best acoustic efficiency of the five cases in today’s test."

I was never a fan of the plastic used on the NZXT Phantoms...but the new gunmetal matted cases...look much much better to me.

I did a Photoshop of mine to come to this. It mimics the angle and tight corner of the upper window.
What do you think, should I do it?

I'm gonna be honest, that window design is not eye appealing. I feel it does not flow with the case and you would be better off just making one big window with a different design. I'm not trying to be a hater just giving my honest opinion.

Now I know nobody want to copy anyone but it also comes down to what looks best. It's your case and you have to live with it.

I myself don't like stealing ideas but sometimes it happens by accident or by mistake.

I knew in Operation Freedom that I would be mounting my SSD's like MyBadOmen's Venom so I made sure I contacted him let him know I was doing a similar design and he gave me the greenlight and said I was more then welcome to do the same SSD layout.

Now KGTuning did the same thing with the SSD layout in his phantom and he cleared it with us also. It's just a mutual respect of modders. Now I do wanna say we all do mods and sometimes we just think alike so sometimes it just happens without knowledge of previous mods. It's hard with an awesome and common case like a Phantom 410.

if you look at TOS posting anything on OCN without copyright or trademarking it or whatever is basically saying its free for anyone to use.
I keep the code of honor and give credit where credit is due, but it isn't necessary.

To learn a little more;
You would need to set the multi meter to its current measuring function, and put it In Series with your load to tell how much current (milliamps) the load draws.
If you measured the max voltage out, and then measured the current draw for whatever you had attached when you measured the voltage, you could compute the power (Watts) that that particular load took. It would not tell you anything, however, about how much maximum power the controller can handle.
The more load, fans etc. you put on, the greater the current that will be drawn from the controller, and typically, the voltage may drop with added load.
To actually measure how much power (in Watts) the controller is capable of, you'd need 2 multimeters, one measuring the voltage at the load, and the other in series with the load measuring the current draw.
Multiply the voltage times the current and you'll have power (Watts)
Now the problem with that, is the only way to know what the max was is to slowly increase the load untill the controller fails. Destructive testing gets expensive, but at least you've determined what your real world max is, at least for that controller channel, and may still vary somewhat from one controller / channel to another (even of the same type).
At least then, conservatively, you could figure half that load would be fine for continuous use.
The manufacturer (NZXT in this case) likely uses the best case scenario specs for the design / components used in the controller and goes with that for the 30W rating, knowing that in most cases, users will probably have about half that much at most.
Darlene

That was exactly what Iam going to do. I just wasn't goping to waste my time explaining step by step the process I was going to take to get the voltage and wattage out of it. Trust me I've been building cars and tweaking emc's since I can remember. I know the proper steps to get the right measurements out of the multi-meter. No just voltage. But thanks anyways. And as for getting a 100% max output reading. I don't find that reasonably necesary as long as we know what pumps and fans it'll handle and which ones it wont theres no need to push it to that type of load. Like we were saying all we might plan on running of of it is a pump or two so as long as it can handle that we're good. I didn't literally mean take a multi-meter set to read voltage and call it a day. I wouldn't want anyone to set me up for a fall so I would never do it to someone else that I'm helping regardless who it is because at the end of the day it's my name the info he got comes back to. wink.gif
