IPC doesn't increase from clock rate Usario, I thought you knew this....

IPC doesn't increase till Terramar/Sepang/Komodo/Vishera, even then it isn't going to increase SIMD performance(keeps getting miscalled IPC for some odd reason)

My only question is how will the mobile version compare to the desktop chip when it comes to performance. Im holding off on getting a laptop till Trinity is out

Depends on the clock rate

Mobile = Desktop if the clock rate is the same

Trinity increases the clock rate for Mobile products with Mobile APUs around 1.9GHz-2.6GHz <== 35W, 45W
With the Desktop parts:
3.8+GHz max 100W
2.8-3.2GHz min 65W

There might even be 35W Desktop parts

FYI my A8-3500M runs at 2.1ghz undervolted (2.7ghz Turbo), and stays there at about the same temperature as it does at stock. A 40% overclock AND an undervolt is no small feat. Trinity will be good, but don't underestimate these little K10.5 cores: you wouldn't be disappointed.

K15 cores are smaller than K12* cores but that is another day I bet you will be able to OC and UV just as well with Trinity unless they go balls out and already are undervolted and OC'ed tongue.gif

Unless, you are running that i5 2500K with the iGPU only. I don't see why you need to watch for Trinity.

I would recommend wait'n'seein AMD Kaveri instead

doh.gif There's no way Trinity A8 integrated is that fast. Just think for a second. HD 7770 is supposed to be close to GTX 460 performance, and it'll cost $150 (it also has 4.8ghz GDDR5, 896 SPs and ~900mhz core clock). Why would AMD make a ~$150 APU with graphics as good as a $150 graphics card? And then there's logistics of adding at least 20-30% more transistors for the APU graphics to get equivalent discrete graphics performance. Meaning.. the APU would need probably 1.9B transistors even if the quad only uses 500M. Anyways disregard this, back to fantasy time.
