Well most of you have said to go with the 7970. That seems like the thing to do. The newest and best technology right? Thanks guys. Can't wait to have them shipped so i can put it together and take a sexy pic of it!

Nice, I think that is the best solution but if you ever go Crossfire with 7970s it would be an extreme bottleneck and a waste of money. Same goes for any multi-GPU setup with AMD, as another poster has already pointed out. A 7970 should be plenty for you with a 1080p display anyway, I think you'll love your purchase.

It's just PCI Express 3.0 compatible, really. It does not need the added bandwidth.

go for the 7970, for the less power consumption. and i dont think that there's any 990fx board that has pci-e 3.0 atm. cmiiw

I was just kicking around this same decision. I ended up picking up 2 unlocked 6950>70 cards for $420. I just could not bring myself to pay $130 more for a single card and a little less performance. I figure if I am still not happy I can add a 3rd for ~$200 in a couple months. Tri-fire 6970 for <$650 sounds good to me.

Honestly, even if you were to use two 7970's I think your processor would do just fine, especially when overclocked close to 4ghz. It would bottleneck it some, but nothing too major. But yeah your processor and mobo are likely the next thing on the upgrade list, maybe with a nice ssd smile.gif
And while the 7970 supports pcie 3.0, it's still 2.0 compatible and won't max it out so you're quite fine.
