Looking for Big, Quiet Case ($200-$300 CAD)

Thread Starter
Hi guys

Ive got some money to spend and I'm looking for a new case. I bought a thermaltake case 7 months ago only because I was building a computer and I didn't have an extra $200 to spend on a better case, but now I do. Rig is in sig. I have an Asus GTX570 DCUII so I'm looking for a big case with nice airflow and preferably one I can attach an H80 or H100 to. I was looking at the 800D and the Haf-X and I just wanted to know if these are the two best cases in the price range. I know silverstone makes some nice cases like the FT02B though and I'm not sure which to pick. Would the FT02B have enough room for an H80 or an H100? Which of the 3 cases I mentioned be the quietest and coolest?

I read that the 800D is excellent for water cooling but the Haf-X is superior for air cooling. Since I am only Water cooling my cpu is it necessary for me to spring for the 800D? or should I just go with the hafx or another case?

Thanks for the help biggrin.gif

Once you get into higher end cases, it is really more about personal preference and small details. Anything above 180 US dollars in full size is going to be very capable. I'd look at some high resolution images of both the 800D and the Haf-X to get a feel for which you may like more.

Details such as mesh vs smooth aluminum finish, hot swappable front access bays vs side mount HDD racks, a partitioned PSU section vs open PSU, and other small points are what you need to consider. I went with the 800D because I knew I was going to watercool and because I liked the look more than other cases. I've been extremely happy with both the quality and performance I received for the price I paid.

As for noise, either of the cases with a good fan controller should split the difference perfectly between quiet daily operation and high flow performance for intensive tasks. The 800D probably has the edge since it doesn't have a front mounted fan.

My vote goes for the 800D such a simple yet sophisticated case! thumb.gif

I'd vote for the 800D too.

If you ever decide to go custom loop, the 800D will give you more options than the Haf X.
