Though it didn't matter once I got into the game and caught onto the idea of "booya lets buy every upgrade, build my massive team and go save the universe" thing.

A healthy dose of this happened on my first playthrough for both games.

ME1: Mined the universe dry, got everything on every planet on first playthrough. I'll never forget the sound of the triple %500 explosion spectre sniper rifle. Played through the game through every difficulty afterwards, got to the highest level. [9/10]
ME2: Did every mission, mined every planet (almost) dry, and saved everybody. Picked up the game a few months later to play half-way through, didn't have the motivation to complete it a second time. [7/10]

It pains me to see ME1 turn into an twitch-fps. The mechanics of the first were some of the most interesting to play with. ME2 I got frustrated with running out of freaking ammo, the recharging aspect of the previous weapon system was awesome. Not to mention, where did my variety of weapons go? DLC made it better, but that rpg element wasn't there anymore, not to mention the limited "skills" system. The only reason I'm going to play through ME3 is the story, I want to see how it ends, and how my choices affect it.

I'll probably get ME3 only to support BioWare, and I just really like the story of the ME series.
I moved all my personal photos and documents to my laptop so all my data that EA might take is out of their hands.
Only my games remain.

That was probably one of the most satisfying choices of the game. It was awesome!

I recommend that you play ME1, before you play ME3. Best thing would be to go in order. You'd gain a greater understanding of the characters and varied story arcs.

Mass Effect 2 was the best game I played, I loved the story and the game play.
I didn't like Mass Effect 2 as much as the first, mainly because they gutted all the rpg aspects of the game and the adventure. In mass effect 1 you could go to and explore different planets in your mako or on foot, some planets had things to do some didn't; but it did have loads of potential; some of the planets were very beautiful. Then there was the actual story of the game which Mass Effect 1 is much more fleshed out than Mass Effect 2, especially regarding the final boss.

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand removed lots of things which made mass effect great; removing the different armor you could equip on your squad allowing you to customize them and removing many of the rpg elements. Instead of improving on the planetary exploration which had potential they completely removed it, in favor of what? mundane probing which not only kills immersion but is just boring. Also the main plot of the game was quite poor compared to Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 1 introduced the whole mass effect universe and lore to you and it seems Mass Effect 2 had little to add to it. Then there are the little things which I could not figure out why they changed, I would rather have a disguised elevator loading scene with characters sharing banter rather than the immersion killing loading screens which are extremely long may I add.

The only thing Mass Effect 2 did better was better flushed out character plots, but with the amount of things removed it was not an even trade off. I didn't even find the gameplay better, I was expecting an rpg but got a linear 3rd person corridor shooter. I have a feeling ME3 will be more of the same, meant to appeal to the bro.

Pretty much this. Pre-ordered ME2 because of ME1. Seeing what ME2 turned out to be though, ME3 is on my "wait and see" list.

I'm upset that of the drastic mechanic change from 1 to 3, but I'll play it just to continue my story that I have saved on my xbox hdd from ME1 to ME2. I also still sport my zombie saren gamerpic, and ME1 was the only other game that I've played on every difficulty besides Ninja Gaidan, .
Did anyone else give that reporter a 5 knuckle sandwich in both games?
3rd time's a charm wink.gif.

LoL FALCOOOOOOOON PUNCH!

Yes my evil Shepard did, my good Shepard did his verbal-judo-no-jutsu and made her look like a neanderthal.

I don't know why this would be a real issue to people. Telling a story well for all players regardless if they're fans of the series or not isn't a bad thing as long as you do it right. PC gamers just like to whine over the smallest things sometimes. ME 2 was still an epic game and did many things better than ME did. Bioware was extremely lazy with DA2 but I'll give them a pass right now on that one and buy ME 3 on Day 1.

All the hype/etc of ME3 has been overshadowed by the fact that it will require Origin. EA/Bioware will not get my support.
It's devestating news really, but not something that will stop me from enjoying the amazing storytelling and gameplay that ME3 could have to offer.

Also, why is this bad? Sounds more like you just want to complain about everything Mass Effect 3 instead of taking any 'improvements' as a good thing. Unlike you, I started off with Mass Effect 2 and then played the first because of it (Which was... odd to say the least.) "Loss of immersion," because new players can be eased in while old players can continue on their merry way?

Because if its a Pesudo RPG you kinda want to play it in sequence...?
