This is nearly twice the climb rate, which will roughly translate to twice the acceleration! This means higher sustained speed in maneuvers as well.
If the P-51 got the A-10 within 300-400 yards (considered the effective gun range of an M2 mounted on an aircraft) after initial merge, I would be incredibly impressed. Once you get above the 51 and start doing boom and zoom attacks, it's only a matter of time before the A-10 gets a gun solution.
Just as a note, the Merlin V-12 in the P-51 puts out more than enough heat for a missile to lock on to. Hell, my dad's business partner flew for the Navy during the cold war era, and those damn missiles would track a lit cigarette on the deck of a carrier in the middle of a storm without a single issue. He said it was borderline eery watching them track the poor guy just innocently smoking his cigarette.
Also, if you are into WWII aviation and flight simulators, give the WWII air combat MMO called Aces High a shot. Steep learning curve, but an absolute blast once you get the hang of it. It has some of the most well-researched flight models I've ever seen in a WWII game, it's really staggering. Plus, reenactment of WWII scenarios is an absolute blast as well. Allied bomber missions into Germany will put you in the midst of 100's of fighters and bombers fighting it out all at once, it's quite a sight!
But anyway, you are correct, we will certainly find out!

I've flown Jane's WWII Fighters for years now and it's another great sim.
The site for it is still up and has a ton of mods you can get, all for free! The catch is finding a copy of it - Still have mine around and although it's a really old one (Circa 1998) it still looks great and flies well too. http://www.ww2fighters.org is the site you can find these if you happen to have a copy and want the add-ons. Some are better than others of course but many of these mods are top notch work.

I'll be happy just flying a super-realistic model (including controls) of the P-51D. I do hope that there will be other WWII era planes to fight against, but either way - I'm happy.

Hardly, the P51 remained in active service 7 years after the A10 was introduced in 1977. The P51 is a capable plane, just because its a prop is moot.

Define "active service." It was used in US reserve squadrons until 1957, at which point it was retired by the US military entirely.

It's last active war role was in Korea, where it was used in some air-to-ground attack roles.

The Dominican air force was the last to retire the P-51, and that was in 1984.

The fact that it has a prop is moot. It's performance and firepower against jet aircraft is not, and in that department, it is noticeably lacking.

This is a joke right? P51's in the Korean war in the early 1950's just after WWII were already relegated to limited second-string ground attack roles. "F-51s flew in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard throughout the 1950s. The last American USAF Mustang was F-51D-30-NA AF Serial No. 44-74936, which was finally withdrawn from service with the West Virginia Air National Guard in 1957. This aircraft is now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. It is, however, painted as P-51D-15-NA Serial No. 44-15174."
