[FUD] AMD pulls "blind test" at recent show

AMD has been in sailing through some rough PR waters recently, especially over the overhyped FX-series CPU launch, but has now pulled a rather interesting PR stunt at the AMD and HardOCP FX GamExperience held in Dallas, Texas a few days ago. The test was interestingly named AMD Reality Check and was consisting of two groups of similar priced systems running on two different CPUs where users, not knowing which one is Intel and which one is AMD, could decide the better one in this blind-test.

I'm not saying that I am challenging the results, especially of the higher end system but I wonder what the demographics of the people are. I also highly doubt the systems were overclocked. Still, kudos to AMD for the event.

Sounds like a very controlled and specific scientific experiment with lots of big numbers way above my head smile.gif

Not a knock on AMD or Intel but things like this just scream picking things that your system does well and not the other...

Heh, this is what I've been saying...that most people would not be able to tell the difference in CPU. GPUs are what everything is currently about. As long as your CPU can pull 60fps...you are golden. Sometimes less depending if the game can implement motion blur in a good way.

The only CPU gaming benchmarks anyone should even take a glance at are the tests done at ultra low resolutions and lowest game settings.

Maybe something with the 2700k's hyperthreading makes things feel less smooth? thinking.gif

I do know there are cases where the 2500k beats a 2600k.

It isn't a surprise that the first build won, with Intel's graphics not quite up to par with the AMD ones. I'm shocked that the second one did so well, but even if this was "dumb" people it is still a good display of how things happen IRL. Synthetics are nice, but only for constant workloads. I think this is a huge slap in the face to all those who say synths give a good indication of what system will perform better. A good slap in the face indeed.

While the test is interesting, people won't take it all that seriously because AMD hosted the event. Most likely they adjusted settings so that the GPU was stressed more than the CPU. Besides its hard to tell a difference when FPS is above 60. I don't mean to talk down so much on the 8150, in fact I think its a much better CPU than people give it credit for, but the 2700K does gets higher game benchmarks.

I'm sure there will be plenty of hate in the comments of some fanbois but I think this illustrates that perception outweighs hardware specifications. AMD proved this a long time ago with Athlon and reality hasn't changed. No matter what your beliefs are a blind test can be very enlightening.

That said, buy what makes you happy. I do. wink.gif
