it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output.

When I read "it will be instead based on a 6000 series" I immeidately thought "sweet, atleast we're going to get 6870 or even better a 6970 equivalent!".
And then I read the part about 6670.

Which simply can't be true because that thing can barely be called a graphics card.

720 to 1080p, four times the amount of pixels.

Console is 6 times stronger.

Quality increase is small. No AA at 1080p, just FXAA.

It is funny that the main bottleneck for console is actually power draw. They need to stay below 200W

So consoles cant have a PSU or power cord? Im rather sure they already have. Clean power can be delivered cheaply with multiple options.

It will be more than fine, trust me. Consoles are easier to program for because you program direct to metal, therefore it is more optimized and you get *more* out of the hardware.

The current xbox 360 uses a 7 year old chip and heck it does fine - look at games like dark souls or crysis 2. They're pretty impressive graphically.

720 will be worthy, trust me smile.gif

this may seem like a joke to most of us, but those who havnt given up on consoles and made the jumpt to pcs, sounds extreme. most those on xbox/ps3 dont even play at 1080p, and those that do dont care that they are using an outdated resolution.

It is also not an apples to apples comaprison. Programming direct to hardware is always more efficient. So you get more out of that hardware programming directly to it.

Even though the xbox 360 uses 720p, a lot of games are graphically impressive. xbox 720 will be a BIG jump up guys, it'll be fine. Granted -- it won't outperform PC's but it will be awesome for those that love consoles, its a pretty impressive upgrade from the 360.

Halo Reach in terms of terrain and effects were pretty graphical and nice when you see off into the distance and your flying through cliffsides ect. imo of course redface.gif

I think we covered the "consoles are more optimized" angle already in this thread. No matter how much you optimize you cant do miracles. If Microsoft is not willing to push the envelope then maybe Sony will. Also this is not the only rumor in town see --> http://semiaccurate.com/2012/01/18/xbox-nextxbox-720-chips-in-production/ (this is the 3rd time this is posted in this thread).

So this Oban chip could well resemble a 7950.
