They do not have AMD or Nvidia drivers to program to and be restricted to APIs. They program directly to the metal of the hardware. Less compatibility and limitation problems, faster, and more control to developer.

The next xbox will be able to do more with that hardware than any sig rig on OCN. Look at what a current 360 can do with hardware you could probably find the PC equivalent of by dumpster diving.

It won't have drivers...it will have firmware. There is no API. The software will interact directly with the hardware. It is all much more efficient

Actually there is around 6-12 months where console releases are better laugher.gif After that new PC hardware will come out will be twice as powerful. Sure if these rumors are true and PC hardware will still be more powerful especially with AMD 79XX, nVidia GTX 6XX, Intel IB and AMD Piledriver being released soon but the console games will be better optimized for the hardware.

What are you talking about?

If PCs were already estimated as 10 times more powerful than current consoles (back in march 2011), and the next round of consoles is to be 6 times more powerful than current consoles, how in the hell will they be better for a period of 6-12 months?

PC is already ahead by leaps and bounds.

You can't even compare them.

If this new console runs games @ 1080p then this generation of consoles will probably fail in terms of updated graphics.

2.25 more pixels which means that it would be less than 3x performance of an xbox that runs @ 720p.

As long as the new consoles use a dx 11 card, I am ok with their choice. Console systems that use DX11 will lead to PC ports that use DX11.

The problem is, by the time this console comes out with DX11 capability, PC gamers will already be craving for DX12 games, or perhaps even DX13.

Not even kidding, since this new Xbox isn't coming out before either very late 2013, or even 2014. 2014 being more realistic.

Consoles simply can't catch up.

Console developers have the advantage of programming to the metal..... this means they can heavily optimize their games on consoles with identical specifications. They do not have to use an API which can limit them and/or add overhead.

No, not every piece of hardware requires a driver to interact with the software. The driver is just a definied interface between hardware and applications/OS. Drivers just make things much easier. On top of drivers are API.... which is what I believe Riou actually meant.

So it's as fast as a 550 ti hooked up to a Phenom II x3?

GTX 550 Ti is much faster than HD6670

HD6670 performs more like 9800GTX

You people are really forgetting consoles limitations aren't the same as PC limitations. A 6670 equivalent on a console will out perform a 6670 on a PC due to the pure fact consoles are optimized with one set of hardware and don't have to worry about least common denominator and scaling like a PC does.

On top of that you cannot compare a console and a PC directly because they process information differently. Consoles (with the exception of the xbox I believe cause it ran on Intel based cpu) ARE NOT x86 like the PC in your home. The only similarity between a console and a PC is the fact that they use similar parts (cpu ram gpu). With the xbox that also adds DirectX features like the 360 has as well.

A console CPU and a PC CPU are different beasts. PC CPUs perform out of order instructions. Consoles do not.

Everyone in this thread saying the next console gen will be weak cause at least 90% of you don't even have a clue what it can do from a pure performance stand point.

Consoles have the advantage of doing more with less. That 6670 can probably rival a high end 68xx card because of the way consoles work.
