Also, for a PC nowadays to be like 5 times better than the consoles (as gamers claim it to be) for example, you should be able to play Crysis 2 at 1280*720 at 5, which doesn't happen (I have a 590 + i7 2600K + 4GB RAM and play the game at that reso 120 fps).

yes, the 720 can maybe get away with good graphics but why settle? especially if we're gonna have to stick with it for another 5-10 years

Really Microsoft a 6670? I was expecting at least a 6770. Any rumors on what kind of CPU these new xboxes are going to have.

Console upscale BF3 from 1280x704 at around 30FPS on Low.
A HD7970 will run the game at 1920x1080 at 60FPS on Ultra.
Based on resolution and FPS alone... that is 4-5 times difference.

LOL, are you serious? I mean, it's true that with a 7970 you can play BF 3 at 60fps stable 1080 but BF 3 isn't the most demanding game. Metro 2033 is way more hardware consuming than it. And also I compared BF everything on low vs everything on Ultra and the difference is very subtle. And deep deep inside you, you know that's true. Take a look at Crysis: Between Very High and Low there's an universe of difference. In BF 3 that doesn't happen, not even by a close range.

I hope you realise that you have to restart the game for the changes to take effect. I run bf3 on low and when I saw a friend running it on very high I felt a little sad inside. The difference is huge.

Won't happen. The CPU will be less relevant, meaning it won't occupy 172mm^2 of the total 400mm^2 of die space that the original Xbox 360 had.

The biggest change we're likely to see is the addition of OoO that the Power7 architecture brings.

My prediction is a 32-22nm quad-core Power7 chip.

This gives them backwards compatibility and, instead of 10MB of EDRAM, you get 8-10MB of level-n cache.

Its not up to the game. The Xenos GPU has a separate scalar unit that up-scales the games regardless of developer intentions. To enable it you need a 1080p screen and select the options in the Dashboard.

So no one will be able to afford it or afford the games.

Gee, I don't know, because they like the exclusive games which aren't available on PC?

No CoD game on consoles run at Native 1080. I remember reading a list of PS3/360 games and what res they run at, out of all my games the only ones that ran native 1080 was GT HD, GT5 & MotorStorm Apocalypse. 99.9% of games only run at 720p even when upscaled, there are a few games that only run at 576p and then are upscaled to 720 rolleyes.gif. The next gen consoles should all run games at 1080p and I think they need to add more AA to console games some of them look really bad.

Ripoff. Absolute ripoff. Where is the $$$ going if not for a state-of-the-art GPU. Lets start a Boycott movement so MSFT gets the message we want better hardware.

I don't think they are going to care about backwards compatibility.
I think an AMD CPU is the best choice. AMD would surely make them a great deal buying both a custom GPU and CPU.
If not then they'll certainly go the IBM route.

I will always be a PC gamer, but the game industry is heavily influenced by consoles. More powerful consoles = better looking games for all.

Hopefully these next gen consoles have at least 4GB of ram which will let them age much better than the 360 and PS3.
