It's possible to get a DECENT mouse and keyboard for less than a 100 bucks. Also 560ti on the egg: 224, more than half the starting price for the 250gb Xbox kit. (Walmart)

So now a mechanical keyboard is a must for gaming? I can comfortably play on a $25 keyboard.
As for the 560ti's price. It does not mater that its half the price of an Xbox kit. If PC games on average cost $40 and console games cost $60 then that price difference is going to offset the balance if you buy enough games.

You know I love PC gaming and all. But I have to admit that I am worried for the future of PC gaming in terms of graphics tbh. I mean with ridulously crappy hardware, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are able to make games that look as good as Uncharted 3, Halo Reach, Red Dead Redemption, Forza 4, GT5 run at such good framerates. And if the reports that the new Xbox 720 is 6 times more powerful is true, I really cant imagine what kind of games the next gen consoles can dish out. Sure, PC gaming will have stuff like 120Hz gaming and 3D Surround and Eyefinity, but consoles will without a doubt pose a very big threat to PCs in the future.

Plus, the issue here is that there are many compelling games that are coming out only on the consoles like the aforementioned Halo series, Red Dead Redemption, Forza, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Uncharted, espiecially the PS3 franchises tbh.

That alone gives a tremendously substantially performance improvement.
Fact of the matter is, PC GPU's have the potential to be 10x faster but aren't because of OS + API overhead. Is it really a surprise when we have games like crysis 1 which are 5 years old and still hobble many PCs?

This laugher.gif I can just about manage 25 FPS at 1920x1080 and on medium without any AA on my sig rig.

I don't think you even understand what point I was making, which was that consoles don't run at 640. I never mentioned once that games are not upscaled. I said that their native resolution depends on the developer, not the hardware, and this is true.

The article quite clearly shows this. Did you not scroll down to the list of native resolutions of each game? doh.gif The article lists the native resolutions for games on both Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Games on consoles are upscaled from their native resolution, which is not limited to 640 by the hardware (some games run at less than that natively, some go as low as 540, some game's native resolutions are 1080). In some cases a game is upscaled to 720 by software and then to 1080 by the GPU.

Click the spoiler tags for lists of the "native resolutions" for games on each platform.

I'm worried about the exact opposite thing. I'm worried that if next gen consoles don't get good enough hardware they are going to continue to hold back PC graphics as the current trend favors multi platform development

It matters as 200 bucks is half the cost of an xbox, but the GPU isnt half a computer...
I can play comfortably with just my mouse that's not the point. GOOD keyboards as almost everyone will agree with me are more than $25. And I haven't seen pc games for 40 dollars other than the half isle for games at walmart... MW3 was 80 when it came out for both console and PC.

See i was thinking about this as well and the fact that next gen consoles do not come out in at least 18 months or longer in case of PS3 actually gives PC gaming a boost.
I see many people buying or ugrading old PC for gaming because it stimply offers better quality , and if that's not enough imagine if next XBox indeed had such a crappy GPU it would prompt even more people to seek something different.
On the contrary to popular belief that console gamers are in 90% 12 year old kids many of them are grown ups and many of them are already catching up on the fact that PC offers superrior experience than consoles when it comes to more "serious" gaming. (not talking about family orientated or social casual games because consoles are obviously better at that)
In the past year i saw many young guys (say 20 to 25) coming to the store i work at and looking for a gaming PC because "console graphics sucks" and since BF3 launched there is more and more of them.
What is particularly nice to see IMO is when a guy who year ago came in asking for a PC and when i tried to explain something was like uhhhh GPU ?? what's that ? SLI wut ? and now he comes and ask "listen i tried to unlock my 6950 and bla bla bla" i smile inside every time it happens. wink.gif
Back on the topic this might not be a bad thing at all , currently consoles are holding PC back but with current consoles getting really old and Sony or MS not releasing nothing new for a while this might play out to our advantage , we just need more titles like BF3 that show the technological gap to a average gamer black on white.
If enough people switch back to PC the devs , publishers and retailers will follow the money train and give PC versions more love.

yes but almost everyobdy who plays on console sits far away from the TV, which makes it look pretty good.

I used to have my 360 on my desk playing on the same monitor I play my PC games on. Once I built my new comp it was like night and day going between the two. Nothing looked smooth on the xbox comparitavly in either frame rates or picture quality (lack of any AA what so ever drives me nuts!) think MW1-3 dirty pixilatedness.

The direct to hardware route that consoles can take does give them a large advantage over PC GPUs if using similarly spect. hardware. People also have to keep in mind that with the XBOX, XBOX360, PS2 and PS3, Microsoft and Sony sold those consoles at a substancial loss initially, however they make up those losses via licensing.

I only buy games once they go for about $20, at most $30. At that point, the price difference between console and PC versions of games is negligible and often they go for the same price. So yea, it's entirely possible for console gamers to not get shafted by the game prices.
