I'm not saying there isn't any games that render under 720. I actually made it quite clear that I acknowledged there are games that render "much" lower, but they are not the majority.

What I'm saying is that games are not restricted to 640 by the hardware because the hardware is capable of running games at a native 720 or even a native 1080, as the list proves. It's been done. Neither are the majority of recent titles 640 and upscaled. Unless you class Modern Warfare 3 as the majority of recent titles (which still isn't 640 because it's 600). Of the entire list of Xbox 360 games on that site only 11 games are rendered at 640 exactly (I just counted them), only one of those (that I'm aware of, Duke Nukem Forever) is a recent title. The rest were older titles, like Perfect Dark Zero, Backbreaker, etc.

And Call of Duty titles render so low because the developers want the game to run at 60FPS. The developers could easily bump that up if they wanted to run it at 30FPS instead. The hardware might have limits but 640 native resolution isn't one of them. The talent of the team developing the title, and a games engine (both within reason of course, there's only so much that anyone can do) is.

Oh I know that, I was just pointing that out because it's a popular title. What resolution the game is capable of running at really depends on what you're doing with it, but I look to Crysis 2 as a good example. It runs at under 720p at 30 FPS IIRC, and compared against the PC version (on lowest settings), it looks a lot worse. (Mostly texture related stuff though.)

If game developers move to 1080p as a standard, then we'll not see much more performance from the 6670, which is disappointing. I can only hope this rumour is false, because it doesn't make any sense to me, as has been said, why would they release the 720 two years or so from now, with a three year old GPU? They could pick a much better one by the time they're getting ready to release it.

Assuming the rumour is true it's not going to be like for like. They're not just going to grab a 6670 and drop it in. It will be tailored to the system. We also don't know what else the system may have in it yet. Will they use a CPU+GPU chip then somehow crossfire that with a GPU chip? Unlikely maybe, but we can only speculate at this current moment in time until formal specifications are released.

I'm more concerned about them finding a proper cooling solution, or at least easing back on people finding their own without risk of bans, than I am about what GPU they will have. I have every confidence it will be capable of kicking some ass. People won't slap £400 on a slight upgrade (unless you reside on OCN rolleyes.gif) and I think Microsoft know that. The graphical leap with each generation has been pretty significant so far and I don't think this next generation will be any different judging by some of the real time demos we've been seeing of the Unreal Engine 3 (with Unreal Engine 4 soon to be).

Haha, but yeah I know. But consider this: Crysis 2 gets 30 FPS at 1152x680 (roughly), if they took that to 1080p on the new console, they'd only get about 50-60 FPS. If you want titles at 60 FPS then there's no room for improvement, or 30 FPS then there's some but not that much.

One thing to remember here is that they will need to have these things off to dev's pretty soon if they want a 2013 Release with a few compatible games. They could go with a 7000 series card and get a long(er)(than with a 6000 card) life. A 2012 E3 showing means they will need to give us a somewhat stable idea of what new features it will bring.

I'm really excited to see what everyone is talking about in terms of this two different models, one for gaming, one for multimedia.
