Finally pulling trigger on SSDs; Better to have single OCZ Agility 3 240GB(Tier 4 performance) or 2x Raid 0 OCZ Agility 3 120gb (Tier 8) - Page 3

I do not see the point in getting a 240GB SSD unless u have a heavy heavy OS or your going to put all your games on it. 120GB is more than enough for OS.

negligble difference between force GT and Crucial M4 in read, but the write is much better on the Force GT. In fact, it looks like the Force GT is superior in most tests. I could be wrong, but thats all I see.

The PC mark Vantage test suite, which the reviewers state is the closest to test real world performance, puts the m4 on top of the Vertex 3 and Corsair Force 3 GT.

As for writes, it depends totally on data used. For instance, the Vertex 3 120gb has 500 write speeds with 100% compressible data. Since all data is compressed to a point, that figure is much lower in the real world. In fact, when the as-ssd test if performed, the Vertex 3 write speed falls to 155mb/s. That's right, less than the m4 on the same test.

But writes are near pointless anyway. Unless you copy files to and from the drive and have a source that provide the file fast enough, you'll never see the advertised write speeds except in certain weak benchmarks like Atto. This is why so many reviews copy a big file from folder to folder on the same ssd to test writes. Once windows is installed, the average user's read to write ratio is about 20 to 1.

quite often..for me wink.gif
