Budget sound card ~$100

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
I want to preface this with the fact that I've read the stickied threads but I'm looking for a card (obviously!), maybe I don't even need one based on my needs. I'll tell you my intentions and hopefully some people in the community can help me.

I've never had a discrete soundcard. I've always had onboard audio. So this is new for me.

I'll be doing recording of gameplay on XBox, PS3 and PC. I'll also have commentary going with this as well.

Games I will be playing include FPS, RPGs (Mostly Diablo 3 when it lands, but for now probably WoW).

My other components stand as this;

Case: Corsair Carbide 400R
MB: ASRock z68 Extreme4 Gen 3
Capture Device: AverMedia Game Broadcaster HD
GPU: TwinFrozr II 6870

Hopefully that gives you an idea of what slots I have available, GPU is in top PCI-E 3 slot.

I could probably bump the budget up $50 but like I said, this is my first venture in to something not onboard.

Thanks fore reading

Im going to second that X-Fi Titanium HD. It's ~150$ however you'll find yourself wondering how much better your sound would be if you had spent that extra 50$. Do not worry about the Asus Xonar STX it is more expensive and the two cards are very equal. Also it has been reported that the X-Fi Titanium HD is better for gaming. If you need further specialization I suggest you go over to Head-Fi because the people over there are more specialized in audio. I hope this helped.

+1 Rep

I appreciate that. I was looking at some of the Xonars before posting but was unsure. The X-Fi looks to be on sale at the egg which is fine by me!

I would look at the Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D, their new product, its actually a quad-core audio processor; pretty much the best from creative.
