Stainless, glass and precision tolerances have always cost more, to say the iphone is cheaper to make or built less well than other top tier smartphones is intellectual dishonesty.

The whole reason this thread exists is because Apple posted record breaking profits. It's very obvious cheap hardware + high retail price gets you these results. Why is this so difficult for everyone to understand?

It his hard to explain to you why this is wrong, only because your being very obtuse. By your simple equation the smartphone/tablet manufacturer made the least amount of money has the highest quality phone and the cheapest price. I think Motorola lost 80 Million that quarter, they must have the best hardware ever. biggrin.gif

the only get to be one of the best companies in the world by making cheap crap that they sell at a massive mark up. The price they sell to retailers is only about $20 from RRP pricing if your lucky, thats why you never see them on sale and everyone has around the same price. Also the company keeps suing everyone lol.

The price difference is staggering really. Believe it people, Apple makes their products from cheap crap and charges you more to buy the phone retail.
Nexus S 4G LCD/TSP combo $169.95
Apple iPhone 4S LCD/TSP combo $59.95
That sounds very, very wrong. The display in the iPhone 4S costs $23 and the touch screen costs $12. Comparatively, the Nexus Galaxy's display costs $23.50 and the touch screen costs $17.50.

The iPhone 4S' bill of materials comes to $188.

The Galaxy Nexus' bill of materials comes to $174.

I noticed a difference between the two though, the teardown for the iPhone 4S includes the box contents which is $7 whereas for the Galaxy Nexus' it doesn't include that. So, call it $181 for the 4S.

To call anything Apple does "fair labor practices" is silly. There is nothing fair about paying someone dirt, while the thing they have just made is sold for 30 times more than what they make in 3 months. There is action, and their are words. Apple does the latter. They don't care about labor practices, only until people raise the issue does it become a problem, and even then they don't actually do anything, they just give the illusion of action. It's a bit like a violent criminal with no desire to change joining an angry management class, it's an empty gesture, and should be seen as that.

It will never last though, that is what is so interesting. It's an unsustainable situation, it's just sad that this is what we have done to our fellow man so a very small percentage of us can get very wealthy.

I'm not sure if Apple uses cheap hardware(my ipod has been very durable, I've had 2 in 6 years never stopped working and that is with TONS of use), but it blows my mind that you just ignore the most OBVIOUS and IMPORTANT input for all things people make. That of HUMAN LABOR EMBODIED in it. There is no IAnything without someone building that stuff. Apple is so successful, and indeed many large corporations who sells things like Apple because they are able to exploit workers in under developed countries who don't like their poverty.

Thanks, I am right. I'm glad you recognize that. I'm not sure what to say to the rest.. What jobs is apple providing? Retail jobs? A job that doesn't even produce anything, other than selling the goods some poor chinese worker made who will work for nothing because the conditions in his country are garbage. Wow thanks apple. I do realize people need jobs etc. This country should look in the mirror and question the nature of those jobs. WalMart and McDonalds are this countries largest employers, think of the long term ramification of that pathetic statistic.

The last sentence confuses me, are you saying I'm depressing? I'm sorry this the focus of my study, heterodox economics and Poly sci. I don't find it depressing at all, I think it is all very fascinating, the whole system is so irrational that it blows my mind.

So how many jobs have Apple created with all this money? Around 0?

And where did all this revenue come from? It certainly wasn't North America or the EU. I love these troll numbers, not only are they, most likely, highly inflated, but also nicely misleading as 0 tax has been paid on it.

Apple doesn't create jobs. Jobs created Apple. Well, not really, I just thought it was a fun play on words. I initially thought of an off-color joke, but I decided to keep it classy.

It's not irrational, it's on the verge of total collapse. Capitalism died long ago and got replaced with consumerism, that has also died and has been replaced with rampant financial looting (banks taking depositors money because there is nothing left to steal). The NDAA and ACTA prove the system is about to come crashing down, which is why we are, very swiftly, running down the path towards fascism, communism and all the beautiful glories they bring. We already live in a corporate communist world in we share our suffering with corporations who rape us. Best part of it all? People who think this is temporary, it will go away and it's politically incorrect to question the greatness of the fools telling us it will be all over soon .
