Preposterous! I have seen and participated in 5.0 on a 2600K, in an Extreme3 Gen 3 with Griffulas.

Edit: Point being, your board could do it.

Its really not that bad. I would be cautious of any voltages over 1.45...

I need 1.328v for 4.6 and for 4.8ghz i need like 1.475v and temps are crazy high.

What cooler do you have? i think for about 4.8ghz + you really need a watercooled system. TBH with a default clock speed of 3.3ghz, its still a huge overclock!

as stated, all chips clock differently.

Expectations regarding K series overclocking in general and on ASUS P67 motherboardsPrior to the recommendations on overclocking the K series, I am outlining our results to set expectations.
The results below are based on the range of the CPU turbo multiplier when overclocking.
Results are representative of 100 D2 CPUs that were binned and tested for stability under load; these results will most likely represent retail CPUs.
1. Approximately 50% of CPUs can go up to 4.4~4.5 GHz
2. Approximately 40% of CPUs can go up to 4.6~4.7 GHz
3. Approximately 10% of CPUs can go up to 4.8~5 GHz (50+ multipliers are about 2% of this group)

out of 100 chips, about half couldnt do 4.4-4.5

More Vcore if you're just trying to hit 5 GHz for benchmarking. I gave mine 1.6 V once to reach 5.3 GHz, but I just couldn't pass 5.2 GHz, no matter what I did.

I wouls just liek to do one 12hr prime95 run at 5ghz and then bring it back down to 4.8. Debating if its worth throwing all that voltage at it.

I will tell you as i have mentioned to others, you don't need all that volts to get to 5 ghz. I too was throwing huge amounts of volts to get to 5ghz and thought i had gotten one of those 'can't get to 5ghz chip. Then I found a guide that went a bit deeper than the regular guides on this cpu (i don't remember where i found it). Long story short here is what i did (follow these instructions at your own risk).
I have 8 gigs of ripjaw and i just set them to xmp which puts them at 2300mhz @1.65v. set cpu pll to 1.9v (for 4.8 to 4.9 ghz) & 1.95v (for 5ghz to 5.2). Set bclk/peg freq to 100. Set cpu ratio to 50 and set cpu volts to 1.4 to 1.41v (for 4.8 to 4.9 ghz) and 1.425v to 1.45v for 5 ghz. You must remember that due to the nature of how these chips are built it is volts that will kill them faster than heat based on what i have learned from intel. So in my opinion an overclock of 5ghz at these volts is a safe enough point to fool with.
It's also a good idea to ensure that you have the latest bios installed. I also don't stress test with prime95 on this cpu but rather i use the intel stress test and i have not had any issues with my overclocks almost 2 months now thumb.gif. With room temp being 74'F/23.3'C i get a idle temp of 26'C/ 78.8'F, light load 36'C/96.8'F and heavy load 46'C/114.8'F. If you combine these settings with the setting of a good guide then you should have no issues (hopefully). My setup also has a 5970 overclocked and is both on a custom liquid cool setup (3x140mm & 2x140mmx 1.73" rads) and it's cold outside biggrin.gif. Hope this helps. As seen in the pictures i try to keeps these parts cool as well

CPU PLL @ 1.95 V is far outside the safe range, so you've just created a new problem to fix the old. If you can't get 5 GHz without it, it might be useful though.
