SSD not functioning

Thread Starter
Just received my Crucial m4 in the mail from newegg, it is showing up in BIOS on my netbook and device manager on my desktop. But when I try to install Windows on it, it's not listed as a drive. Also whenever I try and boot with it, my netbook says there are no bootable devices. Help please? frown.gif

Make sure there are no other drives connected when you install Win 7 on it. I noticed mine needed to be formatted before doing the install. If the BIOS sees it then the system should be able to use it.

Lol, Sorry for the stuff being upside down. I have no clue how that happened. Didn't show that way on my phone.

You still have to boot the Windows 7 install disc or USB flash drive to install onto the SSD. Right now it's probably just RAW format and has no type. Once you get into the Windows install screens you can make a partition on it and format it.

It's probably not seeing it because again, it's a raw drive. When you get into the Windows 7 installer do Shift+F10 to bring up a command prompt. Type diskpart and then list disk, this should give you a number. Type select disk # where the number is the drive and type clean. I had to do this once when a HDD wasn't showing up inside the installer, usually happens to new drives. If this is too confusing you can use any disk partioning software or even use your old install to create a partition on the SSD before doing the install.
