Need portable headphones

In the last several years, I've had Koss KSC75s and two sets of PortaPros. I didn't like the clip style of the 75s and moved to PortaPros, which I like a lot except for their durability. Even with fortification around the plug, the last set has gone out after only a year. I've repaired them several times, but the paint isolation is a pain and the wires are just too small to make any solid, lasting repair.

What are some portable headphones (not IEM) that sound decent and aren't more than $40 or so? They'd be used daily everywhere from classes to trains. The PortaPros have risen from $30 when I found them to $50 now, and that's asking too much unless I can find a way to make the wimpy plug unbreakable.
