[Nordic HW] "We expected more from Radeon HD 7900" [Exclusive]

I thought this belonged here due to all the other GK104 performance/price rumors:

Even if this is hardly the optimum for NVIDIA they said they were positively surprised by AMD's launch - for its own account. A high up representative revealed that NVIDIA before the launch had a likely performance estimate of Radeon HD 7900, an estimate that it has been preparing to beat.

"Honestly, we expected more from our competitor’s new architecture."

After AMD's launch it is even more confident that Kepler and its own performance circuits will have no problem taking down Radeon HD 7900."

typical AMD. rush it out the door first then release a "6970" version when Nvidia finally releases theirs. but anyways, this just forwards the rumors that the mid-range kepler will be faster than the 7970

typical nvidia. I remember the 5870 release they said the same thing. after a long wait we got the gtx 480. we all know how it did with a the competition. it was supposed to blow the 5870 away and was released long after it but we all know what performance we got AND the heat and power consumption. and this is coming from a guy with two gtx 480's.

Mhmm i expected more too. :/

Looks like i'll be holding out for the kepler launch.

Or AMD just priced the 7970s higher than they originally planned so as to capitalise off the high demand. I would really like to know what the profit margins on these things are.

Absolutely agree, I remember getting my new 5870 @ 330euro on release week, after that it went up of course due to a shortage. But now the 7970, which is in the same price class 'enthusiast' goes for 500 euro worriedsmiley.gif

I told myself, if the card goes below 400euro, it would have been an instant buy for me, but alas, Kepler I must wait for. thumb.gif

Interesting if true.
Seems like nVidia was aiming quite high as they stated themselves, so mid-range Kepler for 299$ beating 7970 doesnt seem unlikely after all tongue.gif
