Windows Loading Problem

Thread Starter
My video card and motherboard got fried, and I had an ASUS K8V-MX board around so I popped that in. However, it seems that my windows installation was corrupted. Every time I would boot it would just restart after trying to load windows. So I eventually decided to reinstall, and all went well at first. It got up to the point where it will reboot and then windows install will initialize. Well, it restarts, the gets to the press any key to load from CD. I let it time out so that windows will install, except after the 4th period it locks up, and there is an H, a D and a that appear on my screen in colors. ***?

Yes, I reformatted the drive as I was preparing to reinstall windows. Well, I reformatted one partition. The others have stuff on them I prefer not to lose.

My screen looks like this:

Press any key t boot from CD.....

...................................D

H .................................................. ...........................

And no, the missing 'o' in to is not a typo. However the dots near the happy face and the D are just to provide spacers.

You are supposed to let it time out, instead of hitting a key to boot from CD correct?

Strange indeed!
Try booting from a Live Knoppix CD. If all goes well try some on-line scans.

I booted from my Ubuntu CD, and everything seemed to work fine. Then I restarted, except I left only my SATA drive hooked up, with the ATA drive disconnected because it only registered the ATA drive in windows setup. (Both were recognized in BIOS though?) Then I loaded windows, and now everything works. I reconnected my ATA drive and so far no problems.
